We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Lowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” -Toni Morrison

This speaks to me because there are stories I would like to read or see on screen, but may not be around, yet. Being a writer myself, I have the power to create the types of stories that interest me, with characters I want to follow through a world I have built for them, while having complete control over it all. And that is a wonderful thing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Aside from writing, I also dabble in graphic design. I’ve used my skills to create my own book covers, which I was nervous about at first, but I have received positive responses about them. I went to school for graphic design in 1999, yet I’ve learned more working on my own than I ever did in class. I left college to pursue a career in writing, and since then, I’ve published nearly twenty titles, both independently and traditionally. Being a creator isn’t easy if you want to do this to pay the bills, but I would never want to be anything else.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love movies and I love filming locations. I’ve visited a handful of filming sites from some of my favorite movies, with several more on my bucket list. If a friend were visiting and we shared love for the same movie, let’s say, The Lost Boys, I’d suggest going on a road trip to Santa Cruz during the off-season and check out where some of The Lost Boys scenes were shot. We’d find places to eat on the boardwalk, hang out on the beach, and go on all the rides there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank all the readers out there who read my novels and took the time to leave reviews. And a huge thanks to the ones who reached out to me, letting me know they’ve enjoyed my work. These small things mean the world to any writer struggling to break through in such a saturated industry. Knowing our hard work and sacrifice to create something has been deemed worthy enough to be recognized by someone out there not only encourages us writers to carry on, but it lets us know we’ve succeeded in our job to give our readers the escapism they were wanting. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
