Meet Michelle Shea Walker | Intuitive Coach, Writer, & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Shea Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle Shea, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
As a spiritual coach, writer, & artist, I feel like I speak in quotes and affirmations, but the one that’s resonated the most with me over the past few years isn’t from a self help how to or ancient spiritual proverb. True to my pop culture brand, my personal mantra comes from Madonna: “To me, the whole process of being brushstroke in someone else’s painting is a little difficult.”
These words started to ring true for me around the time I turned 30. Up until that point, I’d been content to follow someone else’s lead, insecure about my own abilities to choose a direction. After 30, something magical happened: I found my own voice. I suddenly felt confident in my abilities to create whole worlds as opposed to just being a tool for someone else to do so. That’s when I started creating more of my own content, trusting my own intuitive wisdom, and writing my own projects so that I could be in charge of the whole picture, not just the brush strokes.
Anytime I think about going back into a corporate job or relinquishing my creative control to someone else, I think back to my material girl mantra and am reminded of my own power.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a creative, the thing I’m most proud of and what I think sets me apart is my ability to blend the spiritual with the secular. It’s really a natural extension of my personality. I’m just as obsessed with psychology and new age wisdom as I am with TV and pop culture, so why not blend the two? Plus, I believe that personal resonance is way more important than the origins of any spiritual message. If you get your clarity from a great monologue on your favorite TV show, that’s your church! That’s why I had no problem using 90’s movie, music, & TV icons to portray the goddesses in my Total Betty Goddess Deck. You’ve gotta take your spiritual wisdom wherever you can find it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d only been living in LA a few months before lockdown occurred so there’s still so much of the city I’ve yet to check out myself! But on the list of places I’d want to share with friends, Cafe Gratitude would be a must (any location, but I think Larchmont is my favorite). At some point there’d be a grounding hike on Fern Dell Trail and maybe some shopping in Los Feliz Village. Then perhaps we’d tackle some of the things on my yet-to-do list like Santa Monica, The Last Bookstore, and LACMA.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a spiritual coach, I owe much of my wisdom and confidence to an author and speaker named Gabrielle Bernstein. Not only was she a big part of my own spiritual awakening, but her Spirit Junkie Masterclass helped me start taking my own business seriously.
As an artist, I’m forever in awe and indebted to fellow creative Gabriella Rosie who’s easy going perspective on the artistic process is infectious. Her class, Card Creator, was the catalyst in making the Total Betty Goddess Deck a reality.
And as a writer, it sounds so silly, but I’m super thankful for the online platform Masterclass. If Shonda Rhimes’s and Aaron Sorkin’s advice were VHS tapes, I would have broken them a long time ago with my repeated viewings.
