We had the good fortune of connecting with Might Delete Later and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Might Delete, what inspires you?
The voicemails that I receive on a daily basis. To be honest, every time I feel a little down or unsure about something, I just pull up that folder where all of them are stored- go through them and I’m back to the “hustle mode” again. It’s just incredible, the stories that people dare to share through the phone.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So I’m Might Delete Later, and I make electronic dance music from voicemails that anyone, anywhere in the world can leave by calling the public phone number, +31658868630.

When I was in my teenage years, I had this one CD by Moby, Play. And I played it over and over again. I think that simplicity but impact fulness that he brought onto the dance music stage is what made Might Delete Later who she is. At the moment I’m incredibly inspired by the early works of Dislosure, Jamie XX, Odesza.

After having had a 4-5 people live band under the name ANNNA, Covid arrived in the Netherlands. We had so many concerts planned for that summer- all of them, gone. I started doing this thing called “toplining” where I send my vocals to DJ’s. One of those toplines was received by quite a big DJ out there who kept on showing videos of him playing the song at these massive festivals around the globe. I thought- wait a second, I’m a producer too, why is there this one guy, with 95% other guys standing on the stage mumbling the lyrics of the song that I sent him? I can do this too! I can be a dj, producer and a singer. And well, it took me a while to get the courage to do so, but I didn’t want to do it just like that.

I hung this small, back then still a yellow post it note, saying “Leave a message and say whatever you want on this post-it” on a book closet on a street in Amsterdam. Came home, and my art director boyfriend was like:

“Wait, why wouldn’t you collect only post-its, but also the voice memos?”

I ran to the store, grabbed a cheap sim card, placed that phone number on a post it and well, that’s how Might Delete Later started.

Now I’ve received more than 5000 voicemails from 33 different countries.
I’ve played Tomorrowland, Sziget, Defected Croatia. Time to put up some of these in LA and play a show in the US?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I am based in Amsterdam, even though at times I get to be here very little, I’ve got my spots. Some of them are secret 😛 so you just have to come over and ask me to show them to you, but some I can share.

For example, in Amsterdam, I’d always go to the Hermitage garden. Get a bottle of wine, take 2 glasses and sit by the Amstel river watching the boats pass by. It’s also a stunning voicemail listening spot btw!

Then, we’d have breakfast at my place. Yup, I serve the best coffee from my boyfriend’s place- Toi Toi Toi in Antwerp and got some croissants in the freezer.

And in terms of music- definitely go to Paradiso. What a place that is, and no matter what music you like, I’d just pick something and be surprised cause the building alone will leave you in awe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All my shoutouts and gratitude go to the people who dare to call the Might Delete Later phone number and leave their voicemail. I still get chills every time I listen to everything that comes in my inbox, it will never stop. Thank you for everything that you make us go through together.
