We had the good fortune of connecting with Miguel Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miguel, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I don’t really like talking about personal issues but for some reason I don’t mind doing it through song so I started creating music as a hobby to express myself.
Getting comments from people telling me that my music got them through a tough time really validated my decision to see it through and really go for it

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a rapper, singer and DJ. I think what sets me apart is that I can take all my influences and truly make it my own and create something unique. I have a huge musical palate that ranges from obscure japanese pop songs to house, then hardcore hip-hop depnding on my mood. Whether it’s a song or a DJ mix. I’m sure whoever listens will hear something cool that they’ve never heard before. I’m constantly excited to keep seeking out music that I’ve never heard as well because inspiration is everywhere across all genres.

One lesson that I’ve learned along the way is to never forget that I’m creating for myself. First and foremost. The listeners and like minded people will come. If you haven’t met your tribe yet, they’re definitely around the corner.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man, I would definitely take someone to my favorite spot to get breakfast burritos: Rero’s Burrito in West Covina. They make them so huge and the salsa is amazing.
Then we’d go to the local Japanese supermarket, Tokyo Central to try all the drinks and snacks imported from Japan.

They would absolutely have to check out Beat Cinema. It’s an artist/producer showcase that happens twice a month in Chinatown and Little Tokyo. I’ve discovered so many cool artists and met interesting people going to those events over the years. After that, we would definitely hit up Kouraku in Little Tokyo to get some ramen

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been lucky to have a support system of friends, family and fellow artists. They’ve all given me the push to keep going and bring me back to earth at times when my path doesn’t seem clear. A huge shoutout goes to them
