We had the good fortune of connecting with Miracle Mile Community Practice and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miracle Mile Community Practice, how does your business help the community?
Miracle Mile Community Practice (https://www.mmcpla.org) has provided affordable psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families in our local and surrounding communities for 26 years. With the increasing popularity of virtual therapy we have expanded and now offer therapy California-wide.

What should our readers know about your business?
In an increasingly “psychiatrized” society, Narrative Therapy puts up resistance in the face of “evidence based practice” that has become more interested in “treating disorders” than in partnering with people. Narrative sees identity as a potential work of art. We take particular interest in how a person’s moral ground and what they stand for might give them footing in the face of the whatever challenges they are facing. It is a person’s talents and gifts and their commitments that are put up against the problem.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Miracle Mile Community Practice (MMCP) started small in 1999 with an interest in servicing the community with a socially just approach to therapy. Our focus on power-relations and the impact of privilege/oppression on one’s sense of identity can be traced to feminist theory and the writings of Michel Foucault and others. Michael White and David Epston drew upon these activists and thinkers along with the forebears of the early family therapy movement in the establishment of Narrative Therapy, a new approach to direct practice–well, not so new now. It’s now been over 40 years. MMCP has grown over time to a staff of twenty, dedicated to training in Narrative Therapy and offering affordable therapy.
