We had the good fortune of connecting with Mireya Frausto and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mireya, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks in life is always a scary decision to act upon. I believe if you never take a risk on yourself, you will never know your true potential of the amazing things you can accomplish in life. Most of us fear change because we are unaware of what lies ahead, but that is what life is all about! Our lives are not written out for us to follow, we are prone to bet on ourselves and take risks. The best part is that we can only grow from the lessons we learn.
I have always had a passion for beauty, especially makeup. I knew that I wanted to become a makeup artist at some point in my life and make people feel beautiful by emphasizing their own beauty. I knew I had to take risks to be able to accomplish my goal and open doors for myself, so I did. Fresh out of high school, I immediately went to makeup school to learn all the necessary tools I needed to excel in this profession. Once I mastered beauty school I knew it was up to me to start taking risks. From practicing on family members as models, to getting invited to award shows such as the Latin Grammys, Latin Billboards and various fashion shows I have learned the importance of putting myself out there and taking risks. This perseverance in my career has given me the confidence to strongly believe in myself as an artist and know that I will succeed. Each risk has taught me an important lesson that I’ve grown from both as an individual and professional. Through them all I’ve been taught to not give up and always push myself. When one door closes, take a risk and create a different path for yourself. Life is not about the failures that occur, but how you pick yourself back up as an individual and keep going. Nobody is going to work towards your goal as hard as yourself. I continue to push harder as a makeup-artist and have so much more to accomplish. I will only continue to do more by taking risks on myself and working harder towards the goals I have envisioned.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a makeup artist I am more proud to be able to create a light for others in making them feel beautiful. Every artist has their own technique of applying makeup and I believe that is what sets us all apart from each other. Personality also plays a huge factor when becoming a makeup artist. I love connecting with my clients and building a trustworthy relationship with them. It is important to have a healthy work environment and have people who trust you and your work.
Becoming a makeup artist was not easy at all and I am far from where I would like to be at, but I am enjoying every step of the way. When I first wanted to go to makeup school and become a makeup artist in 2015, I remember my father not being supportive of my decision. I never let that hold me back from going because I knew that I wanted to take a chance on myself and this was my opportunity to do so. Knowing that my parents were not going to pay for the makeup school I wanted to go to, I got myself a job at a fast food restaurant at the age of 17 and paid it off myself. I do not regret any of it, I am beyond proud that I took a risk on myself and did what I wanted to do. After makeup school, I continued to practice on my family members to perfect my craft and as time went on I showcased my work to other family members and friends and started getting booked for special occasions. I started off as a freelance makeup artist and as the years went by I started getting invited to join the Latin Grammys, Latin Billboards and fashions shows to do makeup. In the year 2019 I knew that I wanted to seek more opportunities in working in production and more as a makeup artist. Thankfully I was given the opportunity to be able to work with some very talented individuals and learn from them. Every opportunity I was given in the makeup/entertainment industry I am forever thankful for. They have taught me many lessons in life that I will only grow from. One lesson that it has taught me the most is I must work my butt off to get to my goals, there is no shortcuts or luck. You are your biggest competitor and the end result will answer how bad you want things.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best friend is in town, we love to visit Los Angeles, CA. There are lots of amazing restaurants and bars to visit. We love Mexican food so we would most likely be going to a restaurant that serves latin food. We also love the nature and there are many places in Los Angeles that you can visit to hike such as the Hollywood Sign, the Griffith Park Trails and Runyon Canyon. Since we are in California we also love to visit the beach, our favorite beach spot is Laguna Beach. There are so many beautiful sceneries and yummy restaurants to eat at.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give recognition to my family for being the biggest support system there is and for always being encouraging when I need it the most. I also want to thank TNT Agency for teaching me all that I know and for believing in me and my work. Without the makeup education nothing would have been possible and I am forever grateful for all the opportunities they have introduced me to.
