Meet Miryam Marleny Marroquin España | Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Miryam Marleny Marroquin España and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miryam Marleny, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’m Miryam Marleny, a wedding photographer based in Southern California, but I’m available worldwide, wherever love stories take me. I specialize in digital and film photography, blending both to create timeless memories. Lately, I’ve also been exploring video to expand my storytelling.
I grew up in Guatemala, and my culture is a big part of who I am. Moving to California in my late teenage years was a blessing from God. This country opened doors for my family and me, it’s where I learned English, went to college, studied fine art photography, and eventually started my business.
Photography has always been in my life. My mom loved taking photos of my siblings and me because she didn’t have childhood pictures of herself. Our home was filled with photo collages, every wall covered with memories. I saw early on how meaningful it is to capture those moments.
Another big influence was my uncle. He worked as a journalist for a national newspaper in Guatemala and had a professional 35mm film camera. It was so special we weren’t allowed to touch it because it was expensive. But as time passed, the camera stopped working and my mom stored it in the closet. Eventually, it became like a toy. I remember playing with it, winding the film, and hearing that unforgettable click. That sound stuck with me. To this day, I still shoot with film, and every time I hear that sound, it brings me back to those memories.
Photography allows me to express my emotions, tell stories, and connect with people during the most meaningful moments of their lives. Weddings especially inspire me, there’s something powerful about witnessing love, family reunions, and cultures coming together. I get to capture memories that families will treasure for generations.
Working with diverse couples from all over the world also inspires me. Growing up in Guatemala gave me one perspective, but living in California and meeting people with unique stories has shown me how beautifully diverse and connected we all are.
Above all, my faith is the biggest reason I do what I do. Photography is a gift from God, an opportunity to serve others by preserving the blessings He’s placed in their lives. Every wedding and family session reminds me of the beauty in connection, love, and faith.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is all about capturing timeless moments that tell a story. What sets me apart is my ability to freeze emotions and details that make each moment unique. I shoot both digital and film because I love the texture and nostalgia that film adds to my work.
What excites me most is documenting the milestones that matter most to my clients. Whether it’s a wedding, family session, or maternity shoot, I want to give them more than just photos, I want to give them an experience. This isn’t just about taking pictures for a paycheck; these are memories they’ll cherish forever. Every session is a chance for me to ensure they feel celebrated, loved, and joyful.
Getting here wasn’t easy, but it’s been worth every challenge. Moving to California and building my business from the ground up taught me resilience, perseverance, and the importance of staying true to my creative vision.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that my work is deeply personal. It’s about creating connections with my clients, guided by my faith and passion for telling their stories. Every photo I take is a reflection of my love for capturing beautiful, joyful moments that will last a lifetime.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I feel so blessed to live in California, a state that truly has it all. We have the beach, the mountains, and the desert, all within driving distance. If a friend were visiting for a week, I wouldn’t just show them around. I’d take them on an unforgettable adventure full of nature, good food, and amazing memories.
Day 1: A Cozy Morning in Santa Clarita & Sunset in Malibu
Nothing beats a slow morning at home, making breakfast and enjoying wonderful, Guatemalan coffee. Sharing that moment with my loved ones is how I’d want to start this trip.
After that, we’d head to Malibu for some fresh ocean air. Exploring El Matador Beach or Point Dume, grabbing lunch at Malibu Farm on the pier, and ending the day with a breathtaking sunset over the Pacific. Maybe even with a drink at Nobu Malibu. That sounds like the perfect way to ease into this trip.
Day 2 & 3: Yosemite National Park – Nature at Its Best
Next, we’d drive up to Yosemite National Park, one of the most magical places in California. The towering cliffs, endless waterfalls, and fresh mountain air make you feel so small yet so alive. We’d hike to Glacier Point, Tunnel View, and Bridalveil Falls. Then spend the night in a cozy cabin or under the stars. Waking up in the middle of nature? There’s nothing like it.
Day 4 & 5: The Coastal Beauty of Big Sur
After soaking in the mountains, it’s time for a coastal road trip down the Pacific Coast Highway. We’d stop at McWay Falls, Bixby Bridge, and Pfeiffer Beach, taking in the most unreal ocean views. Spending the night in Carmel or Monterey would be the perfect way to wind down. Walking through charming little streets, visiting art galleries, and eating fresh seafood sounds like the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.
Day 6 & 7: Desert Magic in Joshua Tree & Palm Springs
The last leg of the trip is all about that desert magic. We’d stop by Joshua Tree Saloon for some live music and great food. Then spend the night stargazing in the middle of the desert, because trust me, the sky out there is unreal. And finally, we’d wrap things up in Palm Springs, lounging by the pool, maybe hitting a spa, and just soaking in the sunshine before heading home.
Grateful for This Beautiful State & New Friends
Honestly, I can’t say it enough. I feel so blessed to live in a place with so much beauty, adventure, and diversity. Thank you to Shout Out LA for this opportunity! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
That’s such a hard question because so many people have played a part in my journey. First and foremost, I have to give all the glory to God. He’s the reason I’m living the life I have today. Every opportunity, every moment of creativity, and every connection I’ve made is because of His blessings.
I’m also incredibly grateful for my parents. Their love, sacrifices, and support have been the foundation of everything I’ve built. Moving to California gave us a new beginning, and I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
My best friends, both in Guatemala and here in California, deserve recognition too. They’ve been there for me through every season of life, cheering me on and believing in me when I needed it most.
And of course, my photographer friends. The creative community I’ve been able to surround myself with inspires me every single day. We push each other to grow, share knowledge, and celebrate each other’s wins.
Honestly, there are so many people who have a special place in my heart. Each of them, in their own way, has helped shape my story, and I’m forever thankful for that.
