Meet Misha Metelkov | Dancer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Misha Metelkov and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misha, how do you define success?
Success to me right now is when you have finished everything that you have started. I believe you can be successful on one day and be unsuccessful the next day. I think as long as you live your day to the fullest and do a step towards every dream that you have, you can define yourself successful.
Especially in the era of distraction, where it’s hard to stay focused. For us, artists, we have so many ideas, or we begin so many things, that often we don’t finish what we started.
So success to me is collection of small and big completed tasks everyday.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been dancing for 10 years now and I’m really proud that everyday I just keep going. It’s not easy physically nor mentally. I moved from Russia to Los Angeles at the age of 19. And I saw two different completely different environments. Getting used to live in different setting and adapt to the culture was a big challenge.
Along the way I learned to trust the process and no matter what keep going forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, I would bring them to Getty Museum. I think this is an amazing spot to spend a day. There are a lot of different stuff to see and learn, very interesting. And after that I would take them to dinner at Girl & the Goat, I love this spot, beautiful food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I can recommend a perfect book, that I believe changed my life when I was young. It’s called “Psycho-Cybernetics” by Dr. Maxwell Maltz.
It changed my outlook on my confidence, on how I think and even, surprisingly, practice my dance, ha-ha.
