We had the good fortune of connecting with Missing-Nin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Missing-Nin, what inspires you?
Music and design are my preferred mediums for artistic expression and I draw as much inspiration from prominent figures in the field as I do from everyday people and activity. My mom was a music aficionado and she introduced me to music ranging from Shania Twain to Onyeka Onwenu and everything in between. Through my own exploration I discovered the work of genre bending artists like Kanye West and JUNGLE and have drawn inspiration from them as well for my music. In contrast to drawing from these elite creators however, I have had full song ideas sparked by the sound of a garbage truck backing up.
Growing up as the child of an architect and a couturier, design has always been a topic of discussion around me and as I developed the ability to express myself through my own designs I have peeked at works by greater artists like Robert Loewy, Salvator Dali and Virgil Abloh. Just as with the garbage truck though, I am able (and sometimes more likely) to pull new ideas for design from a construction site or mail courier.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a producer, artist and designer. One of the projects I’m most proud off is my 6600 Volume One producer album. This is an album featuring various artists and the entire body of work was produced, mixed and mastered by me. Putting the project together was a lot tougher than I imagined mostly due to the fact that most of the artists had never worked with each other. The entire process took over a year but I’m proud to say its available now on all digital streaming platforms. I also put out a single every week in the later half of 2021 and this was a process that taught me a lot about perseverance and the power of consistency. I also learned a lot about myself and what personal traits I needed to develop as a move towards my ultimate goal. I would like the world to know I was here and I made an attempt at changing the sonic landscape of music today for the better.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Castaway in Burbank is a go to for me, its really hard to beat the views you get and their lamb chops are to die for I also frequent Slurping Ramen in Koreatown, What the fist sushi in Silverlake and Jitlada in Hollywood. We would of course wrap the week up with drinks at the best club in Los Angeles, Ballet Hollywood.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out Seth Godin, his books have really help with maneuvering the world of marketing while staying true to my core values as a creative
