We had the good fortune of connecting with Mitchell DeGuzman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mitchell, what do you attribute your success to?
As a high-energy Wedding MC, I really work hard at being myself. I may not be for everyone, but I try to exude a fun vibe without putting on a “hosting” voice. Even my personal social media is mixed with my business posts. It’s important for my clients to get to know me on a personal level where they can relate to me or not. I don’t recommend this for everyone, but it works for me! Being real with my clients has brought me the most success; especially during these times of wedding postponements. I really think people appreciate that. Don’t tell them what they want to hear, tell them what they need to hear.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am so excited to get back to wedding gigs this year and next! I really think there is going to be a boom with wedding gigs. A lot of couples out there are booking dates for the first time, but then there are the couples that are postponing for the second or third time and are searching for new/replacement wedding vendors!
Here is my advice to get booked now and be seen by possible clients!
In 2019 I started to vlog every wedding gig! As I posted on YouTube and IGTV, the inquires really started to pile up. People can only take someone’s recommendation of you so far; some clients need to SEE what you can do. I can show you better than I can tell you! After showing a wedding vlog to a possible client, sometimes we don’t even have a FaceTime meeting. They just ask where to sign and send a deposit. By vlogging, it has also allowed me to be independent and choose my own rates. It’s always great to get started with a company, but if you can build your own reputation and set your rates on your own, I recommend doing that sooner than later!
You got this! Know your worth!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I love Downtown Burbank.
There’s a lot of nice places to eat there, walk around and have a beer at a brewery.
If you need some physical action, just go up the hill to Vital Link Trail and take a hike. It’s right next to Castaway Restaurant which is actually one of my favorite wedding venues. You can get awesome views of the city from up here and dine on their patio as well. Great photo ops.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I know wedding coordinators see many talented Wedding MCs out there and it is always flattering when so many of them keep referring me to their clients! I really love what I do. I don’t take this for granted. It helps my business, keeps me humble, and pushes me to be better than my last wedding gig.
