We had the good fortune of connecting with Mitzy Romero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mitzy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that if we don’t take any risks, there’s no way to tell if we are able to make a business successful. I took the risk in Dec 2021 to rent out a space in Mission, KS to be able to sell local makers items. I now have over 10 vendors including my items, I started in Feb 2022 and the biggest risk I took was I quit my full-time job and decided to go all in. It’s been 3 almost 4 months now and I think this is the biggest risk I’ve ever taken and it’s been a rollercoaster especially since this is my first time ever doing something like this. I wouldn’t be able to do this without the support from my husband and family.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It was hard being able to let go of my full-time job. I worked in the medical field for 8 years and it was great! I learned so much but I knew that it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do. My last job was especially hard, I worked as a Community Health Worker, we help out clients who need resources for food, home, bills etc. It really took a toll on me because it felt like it was an unfortunate never ending situation. Most clients required a lot of attention and with COVID, it was hard to do especially when some clients didn’t want it. I miss helping clients and later on when I am able to step away from the store more often, I would like to continue serving the community again and in different ways. Serving has always been a passion of mine and I will find a way to continue helping again.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Jose and my daughter Mia for putting up with my crazy schedule and always supporting me unconditionally through my journey.

paraMi – a group made up of 4 women who are also part of my store but have helped me tremendously with organizing the store, connecting me with other vendors, always helping me out in any way.

My family & friends for helping me in any way they can and for their continued support.

To my customers who always show up and support me! I wouldn’t be able to do this without you!
