We had the good fortune of connecting with Miu Haiti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miu, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe risk taking is a must in any endeavor. When I became concious of that, and realized there’s no way around it, I had to work on getting as comfortable as I could with taking risks. The way I approach it is in baby steps, I start by taking small risks, low on consequences until I get confident and I trust my intuition enough to make big leaps of faith like moving to a new country to reach bigger impact in my career. Without taking risks I would stay stuck.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There is highs and lows in this field. When it’s high, the calendar is full with rehearsals, shows, interviews, new releases, meetings, collaborations and more. When I’m in this space I have to be mindful of protecting my energy, my body and make sure I don’t overextend myself. When it’s low, I focus on staying ready: I practice, I write new music, I read a lot (auto biographies are the best for learning from other’s experience), I stay in touch with the culture, follow podcasts, watch interviews, concerts etc I’m always in creation mode or in learning mode.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That sounds exiting! I love to show my friends a good time. I would take them on a walk on the high line in NYC, we would go shopping in Chelsea Market. Street food in NYC is unbelievable, we would eat: pizza, halal, tacos. We would go for dinner in Hoboken at Leo’s Grandevous. Breakfast at Griot Café in Jersey City is definitely a must. We would go to a stand up comedy show for sure, gotta laugh. We would catch “Moulin Rouge” on Broadway, it’s my favorite play! And most definitely, we would stay home one of those night and enjoy conversations over wine and cheese, slumber party style.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

You know what they say: It takes a village. It’s true in this case too. I have been blessed to have one at every stage of my journey. Right now, I’m grateful for my family being supportive in their own way, even when they don’t understand my choices. I’m grateful for my team at Purfek Storm Group. I’m grateful to Ralph Leroy, Canadian Artistic Director, for understanding my perspective as an artist fully, and helping me create beautiful, timeless music videos like my new project “Is This Love” and all the many projects we had the chance to work on. On this note, I have to thank videographer Ryan J. Ardito for carrying out Leroy’s vision on this last project. The music video was filmed in Purfek TV’s studio, and video director Storm provided the final touch. I’m so thankful for everyone’s contribution.
