Hi Monique, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In the midst of profound personal loss, I found unexpected clarity and purpose. Following the passing of my beloved grandmother, I embarked on a journey that led to the creation of Moniquesluxe, a hair business born from grief but fueled by a deep desire to make a meaningful impact. Through Moniquesluxe, I discovered my calling: to provide not just hairstyling services, but a holistic wellness experience that uplifts and empowers individuals both spiritually and mentally.

By offering quality hairstyling services and natural hair products through Serene natural hair care. I aim to enhance not only the outer beauty but also the inner well-being of my clients. From nourishing hair treatments to infused essential oil haircare products, every aspect of Moniquesluxe is designed with the intention of fostering self-care and confidence. In this pursuit, I’ve found profound fulfillment, realizing that my passion for hair extends far beyond aesthetics—it’s about nurturing the body, mind, and soul of each person I touch.

Because I love working with my clients so much I decided to start my second business Serenelifestyl that caters to spiritual wellness and I aspire to be an advocate for others to focus on their spiritual wellbeing and finding various ways to connect with their soul and purpose.

Here at Serenelifestyl we strive to provide services and products for the perfect blend of wellness & spiritual exploration for everyone’s spiritual journey. We understand the importance of understanding ourselves, our purpose in who God created us to be and being incredibly grateful for the beauty of God’s creation within the world that we live in. Serenelifestyl is a brand that I created that centres around healing and providing solitude to the chaos around us.

I found the most healing from my grief through rediscovering my faith in God and understanding God’s love for me and that same love is what I give to my clients and what I strive to promote as a human being in this life. If I can make someone smile everyday it makes me feel better because I know that God’s love working through me. My life would be nothing without God so I owe all credit to God’s love in healing me through my spiritual health and wellbeing.

For anyone struggling with grief and wondering if life will ever be the same without their loved one in it, I’m a living testimony that you can still find healing and peace even through the hard times, the love I had for my grandmother reminded me to keep going because she will be a part of me forever and her love keeps me going when I think of all our happy memories and how proud she would be of me today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is in hairstyling! I’m a passionate hairstylist dedicated to helping my clients look and feel their absolute best. With over 5 years of experience in the industry, l’ve honed my craft and developed a keen eye for style, trends, and personalized hair care solutions.

From a young age, I knew that hairstyling was my true calling. What started as a hobby to help build my confidence within learning how to style my own hair, quickly blossomed into a fulfilling career fueled by creativity and a genuine desire to make people feel confident and empowered through their hair. I always felt like I had to love my hair a bit more as I always looked different amongst my classmates at my school and I was always asked questions on why hair type was so different.

I started Moniquesluxe at the age of 17 after the passing of my grandmother the year of 2020 to fulfill my promise to her of starting my own hair business and l’ve been working hard ever since on perfecting my craft.

I’m a visual learner and I taught myself through videos on how to become a braider, I started to learn how to braid my own hair and how to take care of my natural hair through natural remedies.

I believe that every head of hair is unique and deserves personalized attention and care. That’s why I take the time to listen to my client’s needs, understand their hair goals, and tailor each service to complement their individual styles and personalities. I strive to bring the visions of their desired hairstyles to life.

Within my business I also offer mobile hair care and styling services, I strive to create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere during my mobile hair appointments, where clients are able to unwind and enjoy a pampering experience from start to finish within the comfort of their home. With a focus on communication and collaboration, I work closely with clients to ensure that they feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and absolutely fabulous.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would bring my best friend to my favourite tourist spot called Niagara Falls!

The morning would start off with eating breakfast at a nice breakfast spot while overlooking the clear blue waters of the falls.

Then we would take a boat tour, on the Maid of the Mist for a beautiful view of the falls.

After that we would explore the attractions on Clifton Hill, including the Niagara SkyWheel and Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum.

To finish off the night we would have dinner at one of the local restaurants and catch a firework show if they’re scheduled during the visit.

I want to thank God for allowing me to be a beautiful soul upon this earth to spread love and happiness to everyone in my life.

I want to thank my grandmother for her unconditional love for me and for always being my biggest supporter in my dreams. May her soul continue to rest in eternal peace and happiness with God.
