Meet Morgan Taylor Jones | Singer, Songwriter, and Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Taylor Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has played a big role in my life and career. It’s ultimately gotten me to where I am today. Often, I most realize that during times of reflection rather than in the present moment.
Risk has shown up in a variety of ways in my life – whether it was knowing from a young age that I would leave my hometown to move to the childhood city of my dreams (NYC) to pursue my passions; then later actually making that move to New York City right after college with two suitcases, an unpaid internship, and a lot of determination; or later again making another move with just two suitcases (different ones this time) across the country to Los Angeles with no job nor car, but a solid plan and further betting on myself and my dreams. During these occurrences and more, I of course had moments of being unsure how things would land. But I’ve always ended up solidly on my feet and have been able to remain on my artist path along the way.
Overall, I think taking risks is really important because you’ll never know what’s on the other side if you don’t try. When taking a risk, though, I also believe it’s important to not put too much weight on that word, because the idea of “risk” can feel really scary and sometimes hinder you from making that next move. Just look at it as listening to, trusting, and following your gut. It’s always worth it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love R&B. I love harmonies. I love writing. And I love telling stories. When you listen to my music, I hope those things shine through. I believe something that sets me apart from others is the soulfulness and low range within my voice. When you listen to my music, you can also hear the influences from some of my favorite women artists of the ‘80s and ‘90s, and the way I modernize those for present day.
My journey has been far from easy, but I’m proud of its uniqueness and how I’ve continued to persevere. Along the way, I’ve learned how important it is to believe in yourself and speak up for yourself. Trust your gut and your vision because those thoughts and feelings you have, come your way for a reason.
I hope my music reaches and resonates with those it’s meant for; and that they feel a strong connection to it. When people encounter me, I want them to feel my authenticity. I operate from the mindset that, “everything I want is possible,” and I’m sure that’s helped me along the way. Overall, I want people to know that I’m someone who continues to pursue her dreams, through the good and bad seasons. And that although it may sound cliche, if I can do it, so can you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting the area, our itinerary would consist of a mix of exploring, doing things outdoors, and food. Lots of food.
For outdoor activities, we’d spend time at one of my favorite beaches, either Playa del Rey or Manhattan Beach. We’d do a Hollywood sign hike, and one evening would catch a sunset from Griffith Observatory. For breakfast and coffee, we’d visit one of my favorite cafes, either Hilltop Coffee and Kitchen or Manana Coffee. One night for dinner, we’d have tacos at Chulita in Venice. And for a day of pastries and sweet treats, we’d visit Portos in Glendale.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d have to start with my family. I know I’m really lucky and blessed to have a family who has always and continues to support my dreams. In addition to them, I’d have to shoutout my close friends. A small but mighty group, they definitely keep me encouraged as well, even in moments when I may have some self-doubt.
