We had the good fortune of connecting with Moses Mikheyev and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Moses, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued making music professionally and writing books because it was something I felt I had been called to do. I wrote my first book—an Alaska adventure—at the age of fourteen. (I wish I had kept it, but, unfortunately, I lost it during one of my many moves.) I wanted to be a writer from the very beginning. I loved English classes, I loved writing essays. I would write in my free time. I just wrote, with or without pay. (Mostly without.) Eventually, I would come to publish my first book in 2020. Ever since, I think I have something like 6 or 7 books under my belt (with a few more in the works). I wrote the #1 Amazon bestseller Vanishing Bodies in 2023, a science fiction thriller with a romantic twist. I think it’s currently my most popular book. At the moment, I’m about halfway through the first draft of my upcoming science fiction thriller F2F. It’s set one thousand years in the future in a world where people rent their brains for processing power to a corporation. It’s a pretty wild tale, featuring robots, AI, clones, advanced technology, brain-machine interfaces, and much more.
As for music, I wrote my first song when I was probably ten, and it was likely written in my head while taking a proverbial shower. When I started to make some money as a nurse, the first thing I did was go to a professional studio and record a rock pop love song. That was in 2010. Fast forward to 2025, and I released my debut alt rock (plus folk and pop) album I Only Have a Hundred Years to Love You. I’m really proud of the album. If you’re a fan of alternative rock, or just want to listen to something “different,” you can check it out!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In music and in books, I tend to be genreless, hard-to-define, hard-to-pigeonhole. If someone asks me what I write, I don’t know how to answer the question. Is it science fiction? Is it romance? Is it thrillers? Is it literary fiction? Poetry? Maybe a little bit of all of that? Maybe.
The same goes for my music. Is my debut album alternative rock? Is it folk? Is it pop? Who knows? Apple Music thinks it’s “alternative folk.” I don’t even know what alternative folk is, but apparently that’s what I make! Spotify may be closer to the truth here as it puts me in the alt rock, folk, pop, rock, and indie genres. They may be onto something…
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love hiking Will Rogers, Runyon, and Griffith. All three are wonderful. I absolutely love LA and Orange County.
For food, I love Ike’s Love & Sandwiches. One of my favorite sub shops is a small hole in the wall in Burbank called Santoro’s Submarine Sandwiches. I spent a lot of time eating borscht and Russian cuisine at Traktir Restaurant. For shawarma, I recommend Sincerely Syria on Hollywood Blvd. I also have a deep love for McDonal’s and CAVA.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s the little things in life that make an enormous impact. I would say my friends and family—who have supported my art over the years—have pushed me to where I am today. I can give countless stories where I was going to give up on a project and a friend or family member reached out, said something like, “Hey, I really like where this is going. You should finish it.” And I would! I am grateful for all the support I’ve received over the years.
