Meet Motown Maurice | Filmmaker & The Future of Late Night

We had the good fortune of connecting with Motown Maurice and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Motown, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
The man. The myth. The legend.
The Sociology of The Future of Late Night.
This Master Class will explore and deconstruct Motown Maurice’s body of work, his obsession with late-night television, his immunity to disappointment, and the impact of his delusions.
My legacy will be taught among the nation’s great institutions. The impact of my journey will exemplify resilience and symbolize extraordinary sacrifice. The phenomenon of my quest will be used as a multifaceted teaching tool and become the source of infinite inspiration. Mysticism and wonder are the essence of my accomplishments and will be revered as one of the greatest underdog stories ever told.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A decade ago, I would’ve confidently confirmed the reign of my late-night dominance at this point in my life. I’m still delusional about it happening one day, but meanwhile, I’ve embraced the art of documentary storytelling. My quest is unmatched, and I can assure you that in the history of late-night television, no human interest story is more remarkable than mine. Among three titles and over 12 hours of content are the depths of my incredible journey streaming worldwide on platforms such as Tubi and Prime Video.
I’ve documented all of my trials and tribulations for viewers to explore, from homelessness to a 10-year stint living in a garage. I can create compelling stories because my life choices align perfectly; I live by destiny, not fear. I have a degree in broadcast journalism, and I’m an archivist who enjoys preserving memories. This has been a passion of mine since childhood. I also possess an entrepreneurial spirit that led me to operate a photography/videography business for nearly a decade.
Relocating to Los Angeles in 2010 was a monumental risk that thickened the plot of my fantastic voyage. During my first ten years in LA, I worked on several projects, from being featured in major music videos to starring in three Lionsgate indie films.
I don’t have a huge fanbase, but when I encounter someone who has seen my work, the feedback makes it worth making more—even if it’s for only one more response. My upcoming documentary, Hero’s Journey: Myth or Delusion, is expected to be released in early 2025. It will be my most revealing and transparent personal documentary to date.
If the world desires to know what I’ve learned and how I overcame my challenges, either sign up for my be-announced college course or binge my films. My documentaries will answer all questions.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Distinguished guests, we have eagerly anticipated your arrival. Your bespoke itinerary mirrors everything I do for fun: pickleball, tennis, and basketball. Pickleball, recognized as the fastest-growing sport in America, is a unique experience in the LA area.
With its beautiful rooftop, the Anderson Munger YMCA in Koreatown offers open-play pickleball for all levels multiple times a week. The fantastic view from the roof adds charm to this outstanding spot. Across the street, you can dine at an authentic Thai restaurant (Hae Ha Heng | Thai Bistro) and a traditional dessert shop with aesthetic flair (The Dolly Llama).
Next on our list is the Ketchum YMCA in Downtown LA. This three-story complex is a paradise for wellness enthusiasts, offering multiple amenities. My favorites are the indoor basketball court, running track, and sauna. Pickleball is also enjoyed here, and with their recent acquisition of Moi as a Specialty Instructor, the Pball community will soon receive the recognition it deserves.
When you’re ready to take a break from the YMCA, we’ll visit the Michelle and Barack Obama Sports Complex, formerly the Rancho Cienega Recreation Center. This is my primary location for playing tennis. All 12 of their newly renovated courts are free to play. After your rally, take a refreshing dip in their state-of-the-art, Olympic-size pool.
All three spots are what I consider to be LA’s gems. You’ll have a great time and interact with amazing people. If you’re not a member of the Y, we welcome you to request a free 1-day guest pass. If you are a member, proudly use your nationwide access and enjoy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Sometimes, I wonder what would have happened if Aang had given up. The poor boy was trapped in an iceberg for 100 years and emerged biologically 12 years old with the task of saving the world engulfed in war. If Aang hadn’t kept fighting, there’s no telling what kind of havoc the Fire Nation would’ve done to all those tribes.
What if Luke Skywalker had not become a Jedi Master? The galaxy, as we know it, would not be the same. The Jedi could’ve been wiped out, and Luke could’ve turned to the Dark Side.
Imagine if Frodo Baggins had not accepted his quest. His home, the shire, and the world would have faced devastating destruction from Sauron’s horror. Frodo carried the ring, knowing it could destroy him, but he understood the consequences.
I’m shouting out Aang, Luke, and Frodo because, collectively, they represent my mom. Without her sacrifices, my world would not even exist.
