We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadira and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nadira, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I believe that inspiration is everywhere if you look close enough. Ever since I was little I have drawn inspiration from different sources like nature, music, daily life and much more. I tend to fully romanticize life: the way humans interact with each other, which I believe is incredibly adorable. Have you ever been at the beach during sunset? Humans gather all around with their blankets and warm drinks and stare at the sun dissapearing behind the horizon. They all chat, some might even come alone, but for a moment we are all connected, all fully present. Have you ever stopped to look at people around you during a concert? The way they all move to the beat in a slightly different manner, adding their portion of je ne sais quoi. Have you ever seen the way the setting sun rays hit different materials like houses, the street, grass or even people’s clothes? They illuminate details that your eyes might not otherwise see. Being observant of life allows me to draw inspiration from everything around me. On top of that, I have drawn inspiration from both my dreams and nightmares through the years. I have learned to journal my nightly adventures and create pieces based on those subconcious thoughts. Art, at the end of the day, is very subjective, so I tend (or at least try) to make my pieces as personal as possible.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
By using surreallism I have experimented with a new sector of photography. I have always loved capturing people in their own habitat: whether they are models, teachers, artists or any other profession. As I kept working with different clients, I started incorporating surreal items into the photoshoot that represented the person being captured. Sometimes, I encorporate items such as clouds, to represent volatile energy, or crows, to represent the guiding angels that watch over us. Regardless of the subject being captured, I love to use surrealism to spark a conversation regarding the photo, hoping that different viewers would feel different emotions, depending on their perception of life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give recognition to Salvador Dali, a constant source of inspiration. As controversial as he was, his art style is an incredible expression of the madness that was happening in his head. His pieces inspire me to create from emotion and not from rational thought. The usage of colors, shapes and even dystopian figures has inspired me to incorporate surrealism into my photography style.
