We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nadira, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am a firm believer that your job should be a paid hobby. Now, this does not mean that everyone should pursue a creative career, because that would be unrealistic. Ideally, any job could be a paid hobby with the right mindset. Personally, after working in various industries I could not imagine myself doing anything else. My eyes are forever looking for earth’s beauty, weather this might be a landscape, a beautiful sunset or somebody’s bone structure. As I grew up, I quickly realized that looking for beauty was not going to be possible if I spent half of my day in a cubicle.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My digital art has started flourishing as 2020 started. This type of self expression is still relatively new to me because even though I have been photographing for approximately ten years, I always knew that there was more to it. One night I had a dream in which I was mute and my only mean of expression was art. As I woke up, I knew that the dream was a sign to do something different. I started producing self portraits that expressed my journey of living alone in the states, on the other side of the planet as my family, during a world pandemic. Most of the times, I left the piece untitled in hopes that the spectators would find a meaning that related to themselves (because let’s be honest, art is all about your personal perspective) After the first couple of self portraits, I started having very vivid dreams that showed me my next project. I know, I know.. it sounds a bit odd, but have you ever woken up from a dream and not being able to describe it? That’s why I “import my dreams into Photoshop”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area we would have to start by going to San Clemente Beach to catch the sunrise and eat breakfast, maybe camp there for a night. After doing so, we would make our way to Joshua Tree, stopping by the windmills as they are not very popular in Italy (where we are from) After camping and exploring Joshua Tree for two nights and three days, we would make our way back to Big Bear and explore there. As a great finish, we would make our way up to San Francisco, one of, if not the, most beautiful Californian cities. My idea of fun is walking around aimlessly while looking at architecture/landscapes.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my parents for making the right decisions and the right mistakes. It has led me to where I am, and it is going to lead me where I am meant to be.
