We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalia Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalia, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I work in a business that’s very competitive and cut-throat so for me, honesty and loyalty are the most important values I look for in both my personal and professional life. Being in integrity and doing the right thing – even when it’s going to ruffle some feathers – is deeply important to me and I look to surround myself with people who share the same values. I’m also not a fan of people who aren’t qualified yet rise through the ranks quickly. There’s too many of those in my business so being good at your job – and working hard – is very important to me. I always give my 100% and I expect my team to do so as well.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream of producing and directing in the entertainment industry. My dream came true! I’m originally from Canada so I came here by myself to finish school without knowing anyone. Speaking to my parents every day was instrumental in keeping me going – they were my support system. When I finished school, I had to work my way up and navigate the tricky world of entertainment. I’ve had many highs and lows. I stayed focused and kept my eye on the ball which was to make this my full time career. I worked my way up by working on various different types of shows. Eventually I created my own series that I directed and produced for Showtime that ran for 2 seasons (Polyamory: Married & Dating). I’ve been lucky enough to be consistently working. I’m currently Executive Producing the 2nd Season of a series I helped co-create for MTV called “Ghosted: Love Gone Missing.” You have to have thick skin in this business – you really do. There’s a lot of people who don’t want you to succeed out of jealousy or competition or whatever. I overcame and I’m still here because of the strong ethics my parents instilled in me. Don’t let anyone bring you down, don’t let the haters win and NEVER GIVE UP!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I could not have gotten to where I am without my parents’ support. They instilled their values and work ethic in me and they deserve all the credit for me being where I am today.
