We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalia Solis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking risks in life is the only way I force myself to grow, to be able to pursue my dreams. One of the biggest risks I’ve taking so far would be moving out of my home town from Stockton Ca to Los Angeles to pursue Fashion. With no money, no idea what LA is like and only faith that it would work out. From there I worked 3 jobs, one being an assistant to a popular celebrity stylist. I got to style different artist and creatives in the industry I would’ve never imagined. I took another risks my quitting my other 2 jobs to work full time as a wardrobe stylist for a on going play. This is where I made amazing connections with other people in the industry and got to learn so much ! I then began working on my own Apparel business which is another risk I’m embarking on. All while studying to finally revive my AA in apparel Industry Management. I would have never been able to experience any of that without taking a risk.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Not knowing anything about the fashion world I continued to pursue it and learn. At a young age I knew I wanted to work in the fashion industry. I loved styling different outfits and reconstructing my clothing for a different styles. However growing up Fashion was not something that I was told should be pursued as a career. I was discouraged a lot, as I wanted to make my family proud and I felt I was risking that by pursuing Fashion. however that did not stop me and I stuck with my plan. In High school I created its first Fashion Club and was awarded scholarships at FIDM to come to LA and pursue Apparel Industry Management. With time and knowledge I was able to build my experience and connections. Now I can say I’ve styled and met a few of my favorite celebrities. I also designed garments for artists and backup dancers performances, music videos, photo shoots and plays. Now gaining clientele as a stylist and seamstress. I being my journey with starting my own apparel brand named “Cultura” that will be launching soon with Owen Galicia another creative in photography. Cultura was designed and created for Latinos and individuals who grew up with latin culture. We created Cultura to have further representation of Latino heritage in a fashionable, ethical way and can’t wait to share it with others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am still new to Los Angeles, finding new spots every day. Some places I say I really enjoy going to would be the beach ! Manhattan beach is one of my favorites along with Santa Monica Beach. I also enjoy going to the Bike Shed Moto Co where me and friends can go to eat. There are also many museums to tour such as the Broad and museum of contemporary arts.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to Akilah Walker @akthewayy on Instagram. She is a working professional in the acting industry as well as a Writer, Director, Producer and fitness coach. Akilah was an actress I worked with on the set of “Marty and the Hands that Could”. Being new to the theater Industry she was very helpful and kind during the whole process.
