We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Kalei and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I was raised in a very creative and artistic environment. Having family in the music industry had a great influence on me at a young age. I always had a natural love for the arts but I was also always encouraged to build on my passions. Music is my passion and I couldn’t imagine life without it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As I mentioned before I come from a very creative family. I grew up spending late nights in the studio with my Dad and traveling with my Aunt to watch her sing in front of stadiums full of people. Music has always been a massive part of my life. A big life turning point for me was losing my Dad. The early days of my music career had a lot to do with him. I really leaned on him for almost everything musically from performing together, writing and recording together, we did it all. When he passed not only did I lose a parent and best friend but I also had to find my own way with my music. It felt like I had to restart my journey. In a weird way I felt like that made me stronger and pushed me to find myself as an artist. I learned that how I feel about what I create is what truly matters. People will always have an opinion and want to point you in a certain direction, but none of it matters if you’re not happy with what you create.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a Las Vegas Native and am back and forth between Vegas and LA. I do have a few staple spots that I have to always hit whenever I’m in the city. The food spots that I crave and have to have are Monty’s, Sweet Greens, Berri’s Pizza, Sugarfish and Dialog Cafe. When it comes to shopping I love hitting the secondhand stores on Fairfax and Melrose. I always find gems there and that whole area is a vibe. I also really love 3rd street promenade for shopping as well as nightlife. I definitely have a lot of amazing memories there in Santa Monica.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost my family deserves a lot of credit. My Father was a phenomenal musician and my Aunt is also a musician and still performs to this day. They taught me so much. I was basically shadowing them all my life soaking everything in. My parents of course deserve a lot of credit. My Mom and Step Father have always supported me in anything I do. I definitely have to shoutout the team I have around me today. I am so grateful to work with Multi Platinum producers AyeeJB and Ruben of The Track Burnaz, as well as one of Miami’s top engineers Ash Graysun. They have truly helped me find my sound and push me out of my comfort zone to help me grow as an artist.
