We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalya Velky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalya, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I genuinely did not have one, and never really thought I would be running my own business. I was laid off last April after 15 years in the advertising industry. I was struggling with putting my resume together as I felt strongly that I just couldn’t do this work any longer. I knew I had something more to offer the world that wasn’t just people pleasing and sending emails. I did what any rational person about to be laid off did— I booked a flight to Bali to figure out what to do with my life.
I went there with an open mind and open heart, seeking answers of what my purpose was. I was recommended a Guru that gave me all of the answers I was seeking. I realized my purpose was to help people, and to share the knowledge and experiences that have shaped me with the world. I got the best advice ever which was also the simplest: start anywhere. Find things you are interested in and go and learn them. See what sticks.
I began with that— I saw a flyer that day to learn Qigong and thought to myself “hmm that’s something I’ve been interested in learning.” So I signed up. I learned how to master my energy with that practice, and now I’ve been able to teach others how to do it for themselves. In that training, we talked about harnessing energy and how the practice of reiki pairs very well with Qigong. So I immediately came back from Bali and got my reiki certification.
From there I have just been learning every modality that piques my interest. I absolutely love learning and I am constantly seeking out new knowledge, and I especially love sharing the information I find. The last year has been a journey of finding my purpose and going after what I am passionate about, and sharing it with the world.
I never imagined that I would be running my own business, it wasn’t something I really dreamed of. I just fell into it but it makes sense for me. I always wanted to make my own schedule, and be able to work on things that are meaningful to me. Over the last year all of the pieces have been coming together that have pushed me into this world and I’ve been learning it all as I go.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am running my own small but mighty wellness business. I have a multitude of offerings that are all based around helping people in different ways. I teach medical qigong, which is an ancient Chinese practice of 18 gentle movements designed to increase blood flow and relax the body, mind, and spirit. This is a self-healing practice, meaning it’s something that I show people how to do, but they have to physically do it. I also do reiki healings, which is the opposite— people come to me and I do the healing for them. It’s a hands on practice where I move energy through your body to help you relax, release stress, and align any imbalances in the body. I pair this with sound healing to increase the overall benefits and to further relax the body.
I’m also an intuitive coach and counselor. I can identify blocks people are having within and I can help them get to the root and guide them through overcoming the blocks and changing the narrative.
I’ve also been hosting various community events and creating safe spaces where people can let their guards down and connect on deeper levels. I love people and getting into the depths of who they really are— rather than having boring surface level conversations. There is an art to communicating and I help create spaces where people feel comfortable to really express themselves.
My business is complicated as I continue to add more and more things that I do— I’m not just one thing. The quote “Jack of all trades master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one” really applies to me. I have identified multiple things that I am mastering and I will continue to find new and interesting skills to add to my new resume. The next thing I am excited to work on learning is to clear energy out of houses and spaces.
This journey has been very difficult and it has taken a lot of trust in not knowing in order to get here. In the last year, I have had many moments where I thought about giving up. Every time I thought about giving up, a small opportunity came my way that gave me another glimmer of hope and encouraged me to keep going. It’s just like anything in life though. The more you try to control an outcome, the harder it will be to reach the desired outcome. When you let go of the outcome and trust in the process, things will naturally flow in the right direction.
I often encourage my friends and acquaintances to approach life this way—just keep going and if you believe in what you are doing, it will work out. The scary and difficult parts of running a business can also the most fun and rewarding parts.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this city and I especially love when I have friends that are in town visiting me. I almost always take them on a hike in Topanga or somewhere in Malibu. No trip to L.A. is complete without a drive on the PCH, especially at sunset. Who cares if you’re in traffic when the sun is out, the ocean breeze is flowing through the car, and you’re in good company! I live in Venice, so I would definitely do a little tour of the area: Minotti’s for coffee and a walk along the boardwalk to see what crazy and fun things are going on. A walk up Main Street to shop, pop in to Sunny Blue for an omusubi (handheld Japanese rice balls), and Pasjoli for a fancy and delicious meal. We’d also visit Dudley Market for seafood and Night+Market (get the sweet potato massaman! Thank me later) for dinner. And of course we would go to the beach to hang out and search for dolphins.
While I tend to stay on the Westside, I’d also see what they are most interested in experiencing and we would check what special exhibits or pop-ups are happening across the city. There is always something fun and new to explore and generally it is worth the drive to get there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this to all of my previous bosses and mentors that helped me along my path – the good AND the bad. I’ve had some incredible teachers and mentors that took me under my wing, showed me the ropes, helped connect me with people and really trusted in my ability. I’ve also had some horrible bosses over the years but they helped me just as much and forced me to get to know my worth and have given me the drive to follow my own path.
