We had the good fortune of connecting with Natasha Makin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natasha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
If they can do it, so can I! I always get in my head about things and allow that to slow me down. My mind is so incredibly creative, everything is larger than life. That makes it hard to execute, because it feels like it’s too hard to find a starting point and then excuses begin to build. Once I stripped things down and started writing things out it made it easier to execute. You can truly do anything you put your mind to. Execution is key! Just do it!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a creative! I am so proud of myself for taking the big step years ago to move away from my close knit family to pursue the desires of my heart. As an actress, Hollywood is where I felt I needed to be! Since being here, not only have I been able to perform in front of the camera, but I’ve expanded those abilities and have continued to build my brand. In addition to acting, I host for SkeeLove’s House of Hip Hop, and was also blessed to direct 3 projects.  I’m building my business Makin Films Productions alongside Makin Management. Also in the process of growing a bi-coastal events company with my cousin, Makin Memories Events, which has currently been lending its services to creating beautiful memories for family and friends.  Getting here was not a walk in the park. I had several moments of falling on my face, and not afraid to admit, I still stumble. I’ve been scammed in some of the worst ways, I’ve made mistakes, I’ve lost friends, I’ve trusted the wrong people, I’ve been too kind, I’ve said too much and sometimes not enough. Overall, I did not give up! I started to eliminate the fear and execute! And to this day, the journey continues.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whether you’re running around keeping busy or taking it easy and staying more relaxed, LA has something to offer for everyone. First stop would always be a little stroll down Hollywood Blvd and viewing the Hollywood sign.. it just creates the LA/Hollywood vibe and stereotypes. Definitely grab a couple fish tacos from Guisado’s and head over to the Grove. Another day for an early morning hike at Runyon, Malibu or near Griffith Observatory. Hit the beach, either Manhattan, Will Rogers or Malibu and stroll down Venice and Santa Monica/Pier for some people watching and tourist vibes. One evening would include a sporting event and delicious meal with the legend Kevin Johnson, and team at Fixins Soulfood Kitchen. Another evening would bring together the elegance of the LA scene with a nice dinner and outing at Tao in Hollywood. If there’s time, one day would be spent enjoying the beautiful museum of the Getty. Before they head out on a Sunday, we’d have to hit up Downtown LA and Smorgasbord.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, my Father in Heaven, who makes all things possible. Shoutout to my family, fiancé & close friends. Thank you to my brother for always encouraging me and being such a great inspiration.
