We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan Cartwright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nathan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had been putting on underground art shows for several years before The Hive. I was more of an artist, making art shows happen. I was informed about a space that was opening up in the Gallery Row Area. I figured it would be nice to try starting up a real gallery with studios.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am mixed media artist- creating narrative relief sculptures. I’m inspired by anthropology, mythology, psychology and the things that make us humans tick in the direction of the infinite

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the Getty, Arboretum, Griffith Park….and in downtown you’ve got to check out the Hive Gallery, Grand Central Market and the Last Bookstore

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this to all of the art beez who have flown in and out of my Hive over the years
