We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan Hemmens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nathan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting at a young age, I always took the initiative to be independent. As the years went on, I’ve taken jobs to pay bills, but I found myself knowing and having better ideas that the owners I worked for and was getting a lot of money for those ideas. However, it paled in comparison to what they made. This was not satisfing to me since I enjoyed being independent and wanted to be able to solely rely on myself for financial support. It is very important to know that your team is your best asset. Just because you want to be independent from having a “boss” doesn’t mean you should start your own business alone. My advice for someone who would like to start there own business would be to do your homework, know the business you intend to engage in, and seek lots of professional advice. Surround yourself with likeminded positive individuals who are already successful on the same path as you or a few steps ahead.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a musician all of my life. I started playing instruments and singing in Maine early on and then moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. After playing music for many years on Bourbon Street, in the French Quarter, I moved to Los Angeles, California. I have found myself in many situations, learning how to run a business and manage people. I got to where I am today by being consistent in my focus, goals, and the help of others. Big goals are never easy, but with a great team and positive people around you, it makes it easier getting through the tough times. I like to think I am a conduit. I seek and get information and pass it on to others enabling people and myself to be greater than yesterday.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Straight to the beach! Tan in the sun and stop by Gladstone’s at the end of Sunset Bvld to grab some sourdough bread and mojitos. In the evening get dressed up for dinner and a show at the Greek Theater or Hollywood Bowl followed by dessert at Aroma Cafe in Hollywood. Just to start….

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My team is everything! I work with my brother Jason Hemmens and best friend Courtney Leibowitz as the nucleus of every business endeavor I consider. Your team should consist of people who compliment your strengths and help cover your weaknesses.
