We had the good fortune of connecting with N’Dea Irvin-Choy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi N’Dea, what makes you happy? Why?
One thing that makes me happy about creating travel content is knowing that I am inspiring people of all ages to explore the world. Through my content, I am able to show people all over the world what each destination is like and my experience while visiting. I often receive messages from people that say they love my travel tips, have used them on their own trips, and are inspired to take action in their own lives. It is incredibly fulfilling for me to help people through doing something I love (content creation) every single day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a solo traveler who loves going on new adventures and showing my experiences online through my video content. I started my professional career as a biomedical engineer, where I was conducting research as a graduate student. I was seeking a creative outlet when I started my then engineering page, Bmekween on Instagram, which quickly grew into video content on Tiktok and then Youtube. I enjoyed creating content as my hobby, but when I quickly realized I could make money from doing so, I went all in and made it my side gig. Creating content became such an integral part of my day and was often the only thing I looked forward to each and everyday so I decided to leave my engineering career behind, after completing my PhD, and fully converted to creating travel content. Since becoming a full time creator and model, I have learned how much more enjoyable life is when you’re pursuing a career you are passionate about and genuinely love doing. Despite the challenges that come along with being a creator (ex: hate comments, algorithm changes, negotiating deals and pay), my day feels easy because I can go at my own pace, have tons of freedom with my schedule, and enjoy the work I am doing.
I want the world to know they don’t have to wait on others to travel and can simply go on the trip alone. There are so many places to explore and experience, but you’re the one holding yourself back from seeing it by waiting on others. I also want people to know you can succeed by pursuing the thing/job/career path that you want. I left my engineering career behind to pursue content creation, but for you it may be opening a coffee shop, starting your own clothing brand, or even starting a book club. There is so much more to life than working and pursuing the career paths we are often pushed towards, so go after your goals, no matter how crazy they seem.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them for a day at Venice Beach. We would start by riding bikes along the bike trail then have lunch at the Erwin Hotel rooftop Restaurant. We would spend the afternoon playing tennis at the courts next to the beach. The next day, we would do an R&B yoga class on a helipad, then visit the Beverly Hills Hotel for lunch. We would spend the rest of the day at the pool. We would also go shopping at Westfield Century City Mall for some indoor/outdoor shopping. We would stop for poke bowls in the food court, then continue our shopping day in the evening.
We would spend another day wine tasting in Malibu at Cielo Farms, visit the Getty Museum and Getty Villa, then have a rooftop dinner downtown at Spire 73.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my family who has supported me through this career shift and journey to becoming a creator. You have always been extremely supportive of me and my hobbies and I cannot thank you enough for it.
