We had the good fortune of connecting with Nehemiah Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nehemiah, why did you pursue a creative career?
Growing up, I was a latchkey kid. My dad was a single father, so he had to work in order to keep the lights on, clothes on my back, and food on the table. So, six days out of the week, I was home by myself, and the only things to keep me company were a television (I’m going to date myself) and a VCR. We had a box full of VHS tapes, and inside that box were four of the greatest action/adventure movies ever created: ‘Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,’ ‘Big Trouble in Little China,’ and ‘The Goonies.’ I was so captivated by those four stories that I would watch them over and over, and it sparked something in me, which was the desire to tell stories. When I grew up, I decided to pursue my degree in film, which led me to photography. So, essentially, I pursued an artistic career because I love telling stories. I love the sense of adventure and the lasting memories created in the process.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I. Love. Photography… Period. I think it is one of the greatest mediums ever created. The idea of freezing a moment in time, and then revisiting that moment months, years, even decades later is amazing; it’s truly a Time Machine. I think what sets me apart from others is my style. I try to paint every photo with the same visual consistency, lighting-wise and color grading. You’ll always find a hint of yellow and blue, even in my black and white photos.

I’m most proud of the portrait I shot of my Dad. He’s not really a fan of having his photo taken, but he agreed to sit for me, and the photo came out excellent.

I’m excited about a few projects I have lined up in 2024, so I’m really looking forward to getting them off the ground.

I got to the point I’m at professionally through talking to people and making connections. I think the art of conversation and listening is very important. You learn so much about people, so I make an effort to talk to anyone and everyone, and those conversations led to a few jobs.

I know it might sound cliché, but for every ‘no,’ there’s a ‘yes.’ Keep going, keep creating, and you will find that yes.

My driving force is a profound passion for storytelling, specifically in bringing to light the unique narratives of individuals and brands. I believe that every person, every business, has a compelling story to tell, one that defines them and sets them apart. My role is to uncover and articulate these stories, helping to actualize the visions that my clients hold.

The core of my brand is about connection and realization. It’s about delving deep into what makes each project or person distinctive and translating that into a narrative that resonates and inspires. Whether it’s through photography, writing, film, or any other medium, the goal remains the same: to authentically represent the essence of the subject.

What sets me apart in this journey is my commitment to truly understanding and empathizing with those I work with. This isn’t just about capturing a story; it’s about a collaborative process where I work hand-in-hand with my clients to ensure their vision, purpose, and goals are perfectly encapsulated in the final narrative.

As I look to the future, my mission is to continue this journey of storytelling, expanding my reach and refining my craft. I want the world to know that through my work, I aim to not only bring visions to life but also to create a lasting impact that goes beyond the ordinary.

So, if you have a vision, a dream, or a story you wish to tell, I am here to help bring that to life. Together, we can transform your vision into a narrative that captivates and motivates, a story that is uniquely yours.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first food stop would have to be In-and-Out. You can’t beat a Double Double, with extra everything and chilies…Chefs Kiss. Followed by my second choice Fogo de Chao, their Picanha is amazing.

I don’t drink so if they’re cool with drinking water we can grab a few bottles and cruise around my home town, the greatest city outside of L.A., Pasadena followed by a trip to beautiful San Diego.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout to God and my Dad. I can’t thank my dad enough for all he’s ever done, his sacrifices, and dedication to never giving up on me. I wasn’t the easiest teenager/young adult to deal with. I have a few people I grew up with who are no longer here with us, and I was headed down that path pretty quickly, but my dad was a parental warrior and fought tooth and nail, and through tears to keep me here. I remember him telling me one day, ‘Don’t be so quick to rush your life away, you have a lot to give to the world,’ and that really struck a chord with me, so I definitely have to give God and my dad a HUGE shoutout. I have to shout out to my wife and kids also. My wife, because she pushes me out of my comfort zone, more than I like… Lol, and my little ones who constantly keep me on my toes.
