We had the good fortune of connecting with Neil Miguel, Veronica Watson, Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Neil Miguel, Veronica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Neil: Ive always been passionate about telling visual stories. Even if they were not mine, I still wanted to be a part of the experience as well as shape it. When I partnered with Veronica, I saw another person with my same passion for creating projects that reflected our core and were infused by our love for cinema. Since it’s incredible hard to get a film made in Hollywood, we decided we would make our own.

Veronica: I wanted to start our own business to be our own boss and create the projects that we want to see come to life. Between the two of us we have a lot of stories we want to put out into the world and starting a business was the best way to have our say and our voice be heard.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are filmmakers. We tell stories using visual mediums. Our films touch on all subjects of life, using different genres lets us present our films to a wide range of audiences and give them an escape from the hard realities we live in today.

What sets us apart from most is our passion within our partnership. Veronica and I have been together for 10 years and we met while both of us began pursuing our dreams of filmmaking. We are best friends and now recently we became business partners by creating our production company, Film Dreams, Inc. Our professionalism and attention to detail, makes us a very powerful combo. On top of that, we both cover a myriad of in house Production work. Veronica is an award winning and incredibly talented Cinematographer/Camera Operator and is also an accomplished Colorist. Neil’s an award winning filmmaker whose talents excel in Writing, Directing and Editing. Both handle all jobs from Pre Production to Post Production.

Challenges in filmmaking are always coming up. For example it’s a challenge to back out or have a project cancel after putting in the work to make it. Sometimes projects fall through and the only thing we can do is pick ourselves back up, learn what can be done better next time, and keep moving forward. We make sure to learn from every project we do, so our next one is even better. This is one of the ways we continue to navigate and work in our field. These Challenges have taught us to be patient with ourselves and not let outside events bring us down or defeat us.

We have had many lessons in our time as filmmakers. All of them have been useful and push us to be better. There is one particular lesson that keeps us grounded and that is Perseverance. It is by far the one lesson we follow everyday of our lives. If not for Perseverance, we as Artists wouldn’t be doing what we love and hold so close to our hearts. Artists need to have the confidence that it will all work out.

We want to the world to know us for our stories that touch on all kinds of human emotions and the characters we build within them. Our brand is us. The art we make is a reflection of our souls and how we view this world. It all comes from a deep love and curiosity to explore different cultures and meet new people from all over the world. Connection is something we all crave and if our films bring even the smallest group of people some joy and happiness for a brief moment, then we have done right by the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We have so many favorite spots in the city. One of our favorite things about Los Angeles is the wide variety of neighborhoods and cultures. Our itinerary would start with a day in Downtown LA. Start the morning exploring The Last Bookstore, then head over to Grand Central Market for lunch. After lunch, we’d take a walk inside the Bradbury Building and a short trip on Angel’s Flight. Then I’d head to Little Tokyo to shop and get a snack. We’d finish with dinner in one of the great restaurants in the Arts District like Bavel or Yunomi Handroll. For a later evening, Eighty Two or The Let’s Go! Disco club are both fun options. Another area I love to explore is Melrose & West Hollywood. It’s a fun day to check out the vintage shops during the day and eat at some good places there like Tatsu Ramen. Lastly, you have to go to the beach at least once. I’d skip Santa Monica and head down to Hermosa Pier for beautiful clean beaches, delicious food, and fun bars to hang out at night.
