We had the good fortune of connecting with Nem Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nem, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my company, Storyblocker, after recognizing the need for greater control in tools that integrate artificial intelligence. Moreover, I wanted to create a tool made by filmmakers, for filmmakers. It’s essential to build a tool that truly understands the market. We’re seeing a significant gap between traditional Hollywood production workflows and AI filmmaking seen online. Our plan is to create an all-in-one solution to bridge that gap.

What should our readers know about your business?
Currently, I’m the founder of Storyblocker and the executive producer of one of the first AI feature films, Our T2 Remake. The journey to this point has been long and challenging, fueled by my deep passion for both film and technology. What sets me apart is the unique blend of a creative and technical mindset—a combination that’s rare in this industry.

In the early stages of my career, I worked as a Creative Technologist in advertising, and as a commercial and music video director. These roles allowed me to hone my craft and understand the boundaries of what was possible. In 2022, I decided to go all in and started Storyblocker after experimenting with cutting-edge tools like Midjourney, which helped filmmakers bring their visions to life. My mission is to provide filmmakers with tools that empower their creativity and enhance their storytelling, giving them the opportunity to succeed in ways they never thought possible.

Being a founder is far from easy. I’ve sold my car, maxed out credit cards, and even parted with computer equipment to fund this vision. But I believe that Storyblocker is a future worth fighting for—a future where technology and creativity unite to transform the way we tell stories.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My sister recently visited Los Angeles, so I can easily share my favorite spots. My top pick for visitors is the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. They have an incredible prop museum that constantly rotates its exhibits, but the real highlight is the breathtaking view of Los Angeles from their rooftop. It’s a cinematic experience in itself.

Another must-see is Cinespia, where you can watch movies under the stars with a huge crowd. Seeing classic films like Halloween, Ghostbusters, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, or The NeverEnding Story in that setting is a completely different experience. It feels like you’re watching the movie for the first time, with the added thrill of the audience’s reactions.

Lastly, I absolutely love Highland Park Bowl. It’s the oldest bowling alley in Los Angeles, built in the 1920s, and they’ve preserved the original pin-setting machines, adding a nostalgic touch to the place. With a full bar and big plush leather seats at each lane, it’s a perfect blend of history and comfort. I can’t get enough of that place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would say that where I am today is largely due to the support of the AI community. I produced an entire feature film, which was made possible in part by their dedication and craft. The community is thriving right now, and we continuously push boundaries every day. This challenges all of us to do better and bring our A-game. I personally thrive in this environment, and the community, especially the crew behind “Our T2 Remake”, has been incredible to be around.
