We had the good fortune of connecting with Qian “Dan” Qiao from NevadaSYSTEM and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Qian “Dan” Qiao, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always been involved in music behind the scenes, but during the pandemic I decided to pull the trigger and launch my own solo project. Like many others during the time of the shutdown, I spent a lot of time reflecting on what I wanted to achieve.

Something about the unending strangeness, seemed to have paved the way for even more change than usual. It’s hard to plan two weeks in the future—who knows what will be open, what we’ll feel safe doing—but, with previous lifestyles already uprooted, it felt easier than ever to plant new ones.

My desire to focus on my own music was something I quickly realized I could no longer suppress. I found myself constantly thinking about the next track I would produce, humming melodies in between work calls, finding inspiration in everyday tasks. When I finally made the decision to finally take on my music seriously, my partner and friends were hardly surprised because ‘it was just a matter of time.’

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I produce mainly melodic house & techno. it’s a more atmospheric and hypnotic sound… the lines between techno, trance, and house have been blurred in recent years, and it’s resulted in a lot of interesting overlaps and creative spaces to work within. It’s pretty incredible how the rise of digital distribution has unlocked so many new opportunities for genres to be heard.

The journey of being a musician isn’t easy for anyone. We always have multiple priorities to juggle – the creative aspect of producing music, the business portion of managing outreach and promotions, and most importantly, fan engagement. At the end of the day, it’s always going to be about getting listeners excited and enjoying the music. I have to wear multiple hats and made mistakes along the way but I’ve acknowledged it’s the natural progression of pursuing my passion.

I’m extremely proud of where I’ve come over the past several years, the work has been very rewarding. I’ve grown to 50k+ Spotify listeners and garnered over 1m streams across my platforms. Highlights of my sets include recognition on a global stage – one of my first releases, “Eastern Sunrise” was featured by ARTBAT’s editorial playlist and major artists signed with Spinnin’ Records, Armada Music, and Anjunabeats have also remixed my singles. Most recently, my latest release, “Haunted” was even picked up by Monstercat’s main Apple Music playlist.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my incredible partner, her unwavering support on my music journey has been a true blessing. From late nights in the studio to countless gigs, she’s been my rock, cheering me on every step of the way. Her belief in my talent and dreams has fueled my passion and given me the strength to push through challenges. Her encouragement, and understanding have meant the world to me. I’m forever grateful to have her by my side. Here’s to us, making beautiful music together, both on and off the stage.
