We had the good fortune of connecting with Newton Pathak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Newton, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I mean the more you find out about yourself the more you will be able to manager your life better and as a result create more balance. The only way is by knowing what you want, what your limits are, what works for you and what doesn’t work for you and how to act on it. Once you have explored and figured out who you are. The other thing which is equally hard if not more is being focused on your path and not get polluted and distracted by everything that’s happening around you especially If you live in LA. In the city of angels there are sometimes demons lurking. I have gone through phases of distraction and made my share of mistakes to know what I need to do keep myself happy and when not to sacrifice life for work. Trust the process.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is part of my personality. A boy who lives in a dream land filled with made up characters and outwardly scenarios. e.g., A talking tree that tells me stories about the fight of Alexander and Pours from their perspective. Being an avid reader of Mythology and folklore, I tend to craft real world stories born out of my personal experience and my knowledge in mysticism. I’ve done history honors from Mumbai university, that provides me with more stories to compare and investigate when I am crafting my work.

I am most proud about a film that I have made last year called ‘Seashells’. I have poured my soul and heart into making this 30 min short. Months of pre-production, production and postproduction have gone into the film. It’s a real life something’s got to give kind of story. I got to where I am today because of this movie. I’ve learnt everything by doing its own my own and seeking guidance from my mentors.

Through my story I want the world to know that this ordinary boy, this nobody has a heart.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In this city my best friend knows more spots than me, So I am going to put down the places he would appreciate me taking him. Day 1 – Palm springs
Day 2 – San pedro beach
Day 3 – Little Tokyo
Day 4 – Malibu trails
Day 5 – Big bear
Day 6 – Pearblossom Highway
Day 7 – Joshua Tree

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friend and music composer for my films Sumangal Baruah deserves a shout out.
