We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from New York City, New York originally. Born in Far Rockaway raised in Jamaica. Queens. Then I spent my formative years in South Florida. Pretty much areas in between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. I’d say growing up in 2 different so called melting pots helped me with becoming comfortable around all types of settings. I can hang around Black people, Latinos, Indians. Asians. Whites and not feel nervous. Whether its the hood or hollywood I’m not bothered. Out of my element may be a tad but never feeling like I don’t belong. I try to have a good time anywhere I go. I realize that’s not something everyone can do. Some folks stick with what culturally is comfortable. My mindset has been always go with an open mind and good intentions. I think a person in my shoes can thrive in most settings except for maybe a KKK rally.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve spent almost 15 years of my life entertaining and making people laugh. I’m a comedian through standup primarily. I’ve also performed Improv and sketch comedy throughout the years as well. I can say I’m still nowhere near where I want to be in my career honestly. The level I’m at or what I can speak to is that I’m a really good comedian with a few skillsets. I’ve yet to get a hold of next level opportunities that could really elevate my career. I’ve learned that more often than not you will most likely get overlooked. I had to take things into my own hands. I’m set to release my first hour special that was Independently put together by me. My story is all in the special. Hopefully this year i figure out what my brand is lol.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I’m in LA now so it would probably be kicking it in Venice riding bikes on the boardwalk, playing basketball on the legendary courts nearby. Theirs a dope cuban and taco spot nearby to try. I’m not entertaining anyone for a week. They’d be going to the comedy clubs I’m performing at lol. Favorite food spots are Bossanova, Sweet Chick, Aroma cafe, & Mike’s deli. For turning up we head to The Dime bar off Fairfax or Adults Only, they play great hip hop there. Final night we rock out to some karaoke at Goodnite bar in Burbank.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ll dedicate this one to my dude Neil Charles who put me on you guys radar. If not for my buddy we would not be having this conversation. I guess my parents. Them being together on some night in early 1990 is a reason why i’m here as well.
