Meet Nicole Carmody | Artist & Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Carmody and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, how do you define success?
Success comes in a form of struggle. You have to hurdle through many obstacles to get to where you are today and in the future.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well let’s just say it took a good long while to get to where I am today. I have been creating art since the age of four and here I am today. Today as in featuring my art at the Gallery of Hermosa in Hermosa Beach, CA and having a shop inside Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles. I have had to overcome a lot of challenges to get to where I am now. Everyone thought my art was a “joke” and how I wouldn’t go “anywhere” with it. Looks like I proved them wrong. The lesson I have learned is to not let anyone control you and what you want in life.
As for my brand, originally I had the business name, “Nicole Carmody Art & Design.” Then I thought no that’s generic. My brand now is called Evil Eye Design Inc and here is the story as to why I changed the business name. So I always wanted to incorporate the “Design Inc” to make it sound “fancy” haha “fancy”. Now what’s funny about coming up with the Evil Eye, is for one I am part Greek and two, one day I was listening to a song by a band, Franz Ferdinand. It’s called “Evil Eye” and even the lyrics in the song incorporate to myself. Such as “some people can’t see what I can see, some people want to see what I can see.” Which is true because in reality people have tried hard to understand me but they never will unless they have been in my shoes. Let me tell you something, my art is here to make the world a better place. My art is bold and beautiful. I am here to cheer up someone’s sad day with my piece of art. Whether it’s on a mug, tote bag, t-shirt and more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a best friend who lived out of town, let’s just say Chicago. I would take them on a tour of all the amazing beach area in the South Bay and show them my shop inside Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give credit and recognition to everyone supporting me at the Gallery of Hermosa and Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles. Along with my family and friends. Thank you all for supporting me through out my creative journey!
