We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Gomes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I don’t think I had a choice. Since I can remember, I’ve been putting up plays, writing, and creating things for me and my cousins to perform. Even in school, my grades were always A+ for Art, and I was constantly involved in any creative event in my town. During my college years, with the Bando Theatre Group, I was always eager to explore new creative ways of being an actor. Whether it was in Brazil, Lisbon, or LA, the creative path has always been the one that led me. So, I don’t think I chose it; I believe it’s simply part of my being. Creativity has always been my natural mode of expression, and pursuing an artistic career feels like the most authentic way for me to navigate the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey into the world of theater kicked off pretty early on, back in my school days. I was that kid who always volunteered for a role in every play and jumped at any chance to get creative. Fast forward to college, where I decided to take things up a notch by starting my own theater group called O Bando. One of the highlights of my career so far has to be when my theater group toured SESC Theaters across Rio de Janeiro. It was an incredible experience, and seeing our productions resonate with audiences was beyond rewarding.

Acting in three different countries definitely had its challenges. Portugal was my first taste of living abroad, and while the language wasn’t an issue, it was still a big adjustment. Then came the USA, where the language barrier hit me hard. Acting in English required me to brush up on the basics, no matter how experienced I thought I was.

Despite the bumps along the road, I’m now living and working in LA, the epicenter of storytelling and performance. It’s a dream come true to be here. I am proud of how far I’ve come and excited for the limitless possibilities that lie ahead in my acting career.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would start off with breakfast at The Trails Coffee shop, followed by a hike to visit Griffith Observatory, and lunch at In-N-Out Burger for a classic California experience. Definitely, reserve a day to explore the arts district of Downtown LA, checking out street art and galleries, eating at Grand Central Market, and visiting The Broad Museum to see contemporary art collections. You can’t forget Santa Monica Pier. Rent bikes and ride along the scenic Venice Beach boardwalk, stopping at Muscle Beach and the Venice Canals, and of course, enjoy the bars and nightlife in that area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out goes to my mom for nurturing my creativity from a young age, my dad for funding my theater classes in college, my sister for her financial support on my creative adventures, my cousins Ju, Lu, and Dani for their unwavering emotional support, and last but certainly not least, Chrysta and Nick for becoming my family, believing in me, and supporting me throughout this LA journey .
