Meet Nicole Leier | Filmmaker & Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Leier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Well for me creativity is the lens through which I view the world. Artistic expression allows me to communicate thoughts and emotions that transcend words, to touch hearts and minds in ways that resonate deeply. Through my art as a filmmaker and Actor, I can explore the depths of human experience, challenge boundaries, provoke thought, and inspire change. Filmaking is not just what I do; it is an essential part of who I am, shaping my perspective, fueling my passion, and offering a means to connect with others on a profound and meaningful level.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that discipline will determine my reputation.

I cherish this industry and always have. As I grow in it, so does my desire to be an episodic director and work with the best minds out there.

My vision for my career is to work until kids watch television and movies and dream about making them, not just being in them. I want them to know that it is possible to be talented, have a unique voice, and be heard, not just look a certain way. I want to be a part of changing the percentage of black directors that we have in our industry.

I feel called to tell stories for those who can’t, stories that educate, and stories that help people in unique situations or see themselves properly represented. For me, one of the most important things a director must be able to do is listen, and I believe my most powerful tool is empathy.

Directing is an extension of who I am as a person and artist. Using my voice through my directing work is a way I can be of service in our community and help be a part of positive changes.

Filmmaking is one of the most influential art forms. And for me, I believe television is the most exciting format we then filmmakers have right now to bring countless stories to screens across the globe. I aspire to direct films & TV shows where I can do something unique and continuously be a part of the art form from project to project.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In this week-long trip, we’ll kick things off with a blast of Venice Beach vibes! Enjoy lunch at Gjusta, soak in coastal art and culture at the Getty Center, and end the day with a chic dinner experience at Gjelina.

Next, head to Malibu for a relaxing beachy day at Malibu Farm, savoring the oceanside atmosphere.

To spice things up, explore the vibrant events happening in Downtown Los Angeles: Art Walk in DTLA**: Immerse yourself in the creative energy of downtown LA’s art scene with a vibrant art walk featuring local artists and galleries.

Food Festival at Grand Park: Indulge in a culinary adventure at a food festival in Grand Park, gastronomic delights and food trucks.

Film Screenings would be a must. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Catch a special film screening at LACMA, known for its art and film collaborations, where you can enjoy a cinematic experience under the stars.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to take this moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been a part of my journey, shaping me into the person I am today. There have been many individuals, groups, and mentors whose unwavering support, guidance, and belief in my vision have propelled me forward.

As well, I attribute a part of my success to the books, films, and artworks that have ignited my imagination and broadened my horizons. They have served as sources of inspiration, pushing me to explore new ideas and challenge conventions in my artistic pursuits.

To all those who have contributed to my story, whether directly or indirectly, I offer my deepest gratitude. Your presence in my life has been a source of strength, inspiration, and encouragement, fueling my passion and shaping my artistic journey in profound ways.
