Meet Nigeria Anderson | Founder/CEO of Urban Buzz Magazine

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nigeria Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nigeria, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind Urban Buzz Magazine, Where Key Players Speak!, comes from the talent we interview. Urban Buzz Magazine is a promotional-driven, relationship building and quality online magazine. We interview well-known artists in entertainment. While being open to a new generation of artists. The success of our brand is due to our commitment to properly representing people in the entertainment industry. There has been and continues to be a fake news trend. As the founder and CEO, I decided long ago when we launched in 1999. That Urban Buzz Magazine would not follow scandals or be a jump on the bandwagon of what is popular. I might have to stand alone, because, as we know, good news is not so popular. However, a good story is. We want to give artists a platform where they can freely express themselves. If there was a misunderstanding or a hardship, you get to hear it from their perspective. This was designed to create a more authentic line of communication. Also, I don’t use curse words and I don’t allow who I’m interviewing. It just does nothing for the interview or the person who is listening. We conduct personal one on one interviews with audio and video, allowing the viewer an inside peek into what is going on.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
First and foremost, Urban Buzz Magazine is for the people and talent. I have based the format on being more of a casual conversation and less of an interview of sorts. In the interest of our audience and partners, our editorial team is instructed not to engage in rumors, or bashing of another talent. We believe that we should focus on art, talent and purpose. Allowing the reader to learn more about the talent on an intimate level. We’ve been fortunate to stay committed to our process. Most of the people we have interviewed have maintained an integral position in their career. I always say be careful what you attach yourself to. We read bios and listen to materials and if it’s not a fit, we will pass on an interview request. I believe that is what sets us apart from others. We are about quality and not quantity. If you know something is good, you’re more likely to return. I am proud of Urban Buzz Magazine’s position in the industry. We have interviewed Grammy, Oscar, Dove, Stella and a host of nominated and award winning entertainers. When I began the magazine, I understood I was not the only magazine in the genre. So I entered into the business not trying to compete with any other publication. I just wanted to tell the stories my way and it worked. I began getting letters and emails that people enjoyed the magazine and I was shocked. Here we are. No big names and no big financial backers and people were saying they were enjoying the magazine. I knew we were on the right track. It taught me to just be me. We didn’t sound like any other magazine and we surely didn’t look like any other magazine. I could’t afford to. (laughing). In 2009 we added a Christian online radio show to the brand, WKPS, which is the tag line where key players speak!. So to anyone wanting to launch a magazine, just do it your way. There is no one particular audience, you just find your niche.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I am laid back and enjoy simple pleasures like a movie or walking in botanical gardens. A week’s stay, with my bestie, we are going to hit the beach, restaurants, music spots, a comedy club and, of course, sight-seeing. Based on time, that might include an art exhibit and poetry. If they are still here on Sunday, we going to church. There are so many places to go. When I have a visitor, I use that time to try places I heard about and wanted to go but never went. This way we can try it out together and if we don’t like it, at least we can complain to each other and write a review.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad is my biggest supporter, from day one. Salute to Mr. Anderson.
