Meet Nina Marie | Cosmetologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nina Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nina Marie, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
What makes me happy is making other people happy! In my profession as a cosmetologist, I get to help make someone’s day or improve their mood by being their personal therapist, friend, or just someone that can help you sit and relax. It makes me so joyful to be able to help people become the best version of themselves while also being there for anything else they might need. I also love being creative, so having so many opportunities to use my creative expression everyday is so enjoyable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is separate from other people’s art because what I do is personal involving a client. When I express myself creatively for a client, it is not always about what I want, but I get to do what my client wants. My art has to deal with problem solving and making sure that what I’m creating will bring out more of the beauty of the person in my chair. When I realized I wanted to be a cosmetologist, the process to get in to a school for me, was not very difficult. The work came when I was in school and afterwards. The only thing that became a challenge were weird looks and judgement from others. However, I believe that you should do what you love and what makes you happy, who cares what others think?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I have off time or I get to spend time with my friends, I always love going out to eat! I like to look for new places or new foods I haven’t tried yet and experience them! I also love to keep up with what is going on in my city. I keep tabs on any markets, festivals, or other fun activities that might be going on.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my parents. My parents have been there to support me through all my crazy ideas now, and in the past. They have always been there for me when I need them, and I am so thankful to be raised by such amazing individuals.
