We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah Barker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noah, what matters most to you?
Flexibility and problem solving. Anything can change at any given moment. Learning to work with the changes and make them something you can benefit from is the most valuable thing

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work during the day as an art fabricator and spend most of my time outside of that making music. It’s hard doing both but it’s humbling. It makes me more intentional with my decisions in music and in life. It’s also an exercise in motivation. Finding something exciting about music after a day of work is what keeps me motivated and gives the music making process a sense of urgency. There are times when I can’t do both and that’s okay too. Resting or going outside are parts of that process. I have to remind myself not to take it too seriously and the experiences I have outside of work and music are what give the two life.

Currently I’m preparing the release my next project. It’s a completely improvised body of music made with Nelson Devereaux during a live stream. We used a Roland JV synth, keys, OP-1, saxophone, flute, voice, loops, and effects. It’s called Subtle Frequencies and is coming out on Chicago based label FPE Records on 4/26. You can pre-order and preview the album on my website and read more about it on FPE’s site.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Showing you the best time is a lot of pressure hah but the good-time spots I’d take you to would be Broadway and the various malls in Chinatown, Olvera street and the overlooks in Elysian. We we would get lunch at Grand Central Market and eat it in Grand Park, see a Floating show in the park, hike in Altadena, eat curry in Thai Town, get dinner at Sushi Gen, breakfast at Wake n Late, take a late night drive down sunset blvd in Hollywood and maybe watch traffic on one of the bridges in downtown LA.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I’d like to shoutout my family, friends, and peers who want to see me grow, for their continued love and support of me as not just a musician but a person. Second, I’d like to shoutout Ryuichi Sakamoto who made releasing piano, chamber, electronic and fusion music into one album cool.
