We had the good fortune of connecting with Northside Joyride and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Northside, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It was the only thing that ever spoke to me. Making music just feels right to me. With that being said, being a musician can be super hard some days. You don’t show up to “work” with a clear plan of what to do. You always have to push yourself to be better and innovate. When I sit down at my computer, I have a blank canvas in front of me and the opportunity to create anything I want. And, as cliché as it sounds, the idea of sitting at a desk from 9 to 5 5 days a week terrifies me. The worst day making music is better than the best day at the office.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well I’m Sal and Northside Joyride is the stage name I use to tell my story through my songs. We’re not who you think we are out in Denver and I’m on a mission to prove that. I guess what sets me apart is the numerous musical genres (such as pop, rock, indie, R&B, & electro) I combine along with very personable yet relatable stories in my lyrics. I’ve learned a lot of lessons over the years, but the best one I’ve learned is just to trust yourself. Really, I know how daunting it is to put out a piece of art that is so personal to you and be criticized but it is also so rewarding to find out there are people out there who love what you do!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OK, the boys are in town for the week here’s the game plan!

Were eating at: Baja Cali Fish & Tacos in Alhambra, Sushi Ippo in Koreatown, Stout in Santa Monica, Wurstküche in Little Tokyo, Gus’ Drive In Westlake, Bulgogi Hut in Koreatown, Crispy Pork Gang in Thai Town, And Lobster & Beer in Culver City.

During the day were heading to: The Broad in DTLA, The Museum of Neon in Glendale, Hidden Treasures in Topanga Canyon, Soap Plant/Wacko in Los Feliz, El Matador Beach in Malibu, The Old LA Zoo in Griffith Park, and a concert at the Hollywood Bowl.

Then at night we hit the bars: The Bigfoot in Atwater Village, Golden Road Brewery in Atwater Village, Crawfords in Westlake, EightyTwo in Little Tokyo, and Cha Cha Lounge in Silver Lake. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shout out to everyone in my life who supports me!!!

My wonderful girlfriend Nancy constantly deals with my erratic behavior when it comes to pursuing my artistic visions.

Best friend Blake always gives me the tough love that needs to be said even when I don’t want to hear it.

Eric Ivan, Dooney West, & Sonny Cay are always there to help me with music, and constantly inspire me to create.

Simon Cardoza has been like a big brother to me here in LA and has taught me so much about music, photography, and cinematography.

My parents have always been supportive of me. Even after I left college and moved to LA to pursue music.

Haha this question makes me feel like I’m accepting a Grammy
