We had the good fortune of connecting with Nosizwe Moleah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nosizwe, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Connection. I’ve learned growing up that connecting with others and being present with love is the best way to build genuine relationships (aka a business). Everyone wants to be seen, paid attention to and respected. If you can master this, you can be very successful in life. Asking someone how they’re doing can go a long way.

I always want to make sure when dealing with a client to give them my full attention. This way trust is built, I can fully understand their request and come back with a beautiful product for them. It’s all about connection.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Madeline & Pearl is my online sweet boutique where I offer a variety of pastries from cookies, cakes, cinnamon rolls, brownies, and artisanal plant based ice cream. I named my business after my grandmother’s Madeline; my dad’s mother who represented creativity, African culture and arts. Pearl; my maternal grandmother who represents faith, wisdom and elegance.

I’m most proud of the support and love Madeline & Pearl has received. The business has been on the rise every since we’ve opened and I’m very thankful. With the training I’ve had under many amazing pastry chefs, Madeline & Pearl brings a wide variety of sweets; making us different from others. My clients have requested pastries from Pavlovas, Cake Pops, King’s Cake to Croissants and more. This keeps me on my toes as a chef and always allows me to be creative.

Madeline & Pearl also offers most of our pastries as vegan options. Growing up vegetarian has given me a great advantage in vegan baking, making it easy for me to convert dairy friendly pastries to delicious vegan pastries. Our most popular vegan pastries are our cakes, cinnamon rolls and brownies!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the beach so spending a day at Manhattan beach would be first. I love sugar so of course we have to stop at Manhattan Beach Creamery. I love their variety of sweet treats and their ice cream flavors are out of this world. It’s like being in a candy store….literally. After eating ice cream on the beach and relaxing, we would have to go to Mia’s Kitchen for lunch. Their roti’s and doubles are amazing.

During the week we would have to hit up; Salt & Straw, Republique, Porto’s Bakery, The Grove, 85C Bakery, Amandine Patisserie, Grand Central Market, Rodeo Drive, Santa Monica Pier, EP&LP, LACMA, 40Love, Spago Beverly Hills, HomeState, The Broad, Otium, Natraliart Jamaican Restaurant, Ace Hotel, The Last Bookstore, Echo Park, Malibu Beach, Runyon Canyon, and WurstKuche to name a few. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A big help to the success of my brand in the beginning and up to now is because of Amelian Hamilton. She is the founder of Sisters With Invoices. Amelian is also an artist and writer. Thanks to Sisters With Invoices I was able to connect with many of the members there and display a variety of pastries at the events. Many of the members of SWI have supported my business Madeline & Pearl. These connections have helped me along the way and I am forever grateful to Amelian for her support. She has been a great big sister to me and welcomed me with open arms.
