Meet Nuñez Rojas | Painter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nuñez Rojas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nuñez, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Hello and thank you for your question, in all honesty I feel a person with the ability to create something beautiful or meaningful does not have the choice it’s is life and the pursuit to push it past the idea of creating art. The goal to me is to place art within the spaces of human interaction, a person’s work can soak into the everyday person and create an energy that is needed in human culture. Story telling in a context even.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Thank you, what sets me apart and brings me also together is my diversity. I am Kenyan Chilean, Spanish and indigenous s Chilean I can relate, I feel to a broad and multicultural world and reflect that is beauty. I can relate to people who have been discriminated by because of the indifference of colour bias, or the in between. I’m an immigrant to two country’s. I know that take well, growing up in America and in American schools. Losing people, I know to Gun violence and prejudice it has given me a wide eye to the value of cultural identity and how important it is for it is the ground that keeps you up and over the hardships that can manifest.
I’m working on a project to place a large body of work together as a cultural quilt of sorts. Also,
I’m at a place in my practice where I am ready to experiment with mixing my idea of form and colour into still moments. Instead of using movement to start a piece like I have been. I will try and use stillness sounds odd yes. No easy is not part of my process its intimate in all regards and that can bring forth difficult moments but needed. I overcome By pushing forward or stepping away all together and then coming back with fresh eyes.
I want the world to Know I see you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh how lovely, yes well week long. I would suggest stay in a coastal town nearby called Brunswick, heads. Also explore the local Farmers markets for fresh baked goods and some great people working the stalls. I would recommend Lismore NSW, even after being completely flooded twice that tiny city is full of the realist folk, great vintage. Enjoy the sleepy nature of things, try and drive in the county. Get lost, make a random Very friendly Aussie friend.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother, my grandmother, my great grandmother these strong women that have I feel inherently pass down the ability to tell stories within my work. My mother used her work in Textiles to reconstruct the cultural woven tales of the indigenous people of Chile. I feel I do something along those lines. I thank her for carting me along to the museum with her and letting me experience this early in my childhood. She is my true Muse
