We had the good fortune of connecting with nupur singh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi nupur, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Before I became a mom, my idea of work-life balance was all about juggling tasks flawlessly, striving for perfection in every area of life. But becoming a parent has turned that notion on its head!
Balancing work and family shifted from an idea of perfection to more of a dynamic dance. Some days, I’m a superhero at work, other days I feel like I’m crushing it on the home front. And then, of course, there are days when I just want to hide under the covers! For me now, work-life balance isn’t about splitting everything perfectly down the middle. It’s about recognizing that each day brings its own priorities and challenges. Some days I may have to give 110% to one area and a little less to another. And that’s okay.
What’s crucial is not letting the pursuit of balance stress you out or harm your well-being. Instead, it’s about doing the best in each role, being authentic to who I am, and being present where I need to be at that moment. It’s a journey of accepting that perfection isn’t the goal; it’s about giving my best in every aspect of life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The journey from running a successful marketing firm to venturing into the world of clothing with Monday Chill has been transformative. What sets our brand apart is the fusion of innovation, dedication, and a commitment to breaking norms.
The inception of Monday Chill stemmed from an itch sparked by the birth of my daughter, driving me to explore the sustainable clothing industry. Meeting my co-founder paved the way for a year of relentless effort, extensive research, and hard work, culminating in the launch of our bamboo clothing line for adults and kids. The remarkable qualities of bamboo, from its hypoallergenic nature—ideal for those with dry, sensitive, or eczema-prone skin—to its remarkable softness, made our line versatile enough for airport travels, brunches, work-from-home days, yoga sessions, and more. The overwhelming positive response at launch affirmed our belief in the product’s appeal.
Reflecting on this journey, I’m grateful for challenging societal norms. Rejecting the notion that life and career paths should be set by a certain age, that forming deep friendships later in life is improbable, and that running a business as a new mom is unattainable has been instrumental in our success. Starting this brand as a new mom in my mid-thirties with a co-founder who has become a dear friend is a testament to breaking barriers and embracing new beginnings.
Our brand, Monday Chill, is more than just clothing—it’s a celebration of versatility, inclusivity, sustainability and the courage to defy expectations. It represents the essence of comfort, style, and functionality that adapts seamlessly to the diverse lifestyles of our customers. We’re immensely proud of the brand we’ve built and the community we’ve fostered—a brand that embraces individuality and empowers people to be their best, most comfortable selves.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s so much California has to offer. I’d kick off my friend’s visit with a fantastic night out in San Francisco, exploring its coolest bars and restaurants. The energy in places like the Mission District or North Beach is just infectious!
Then, it’s off for a dreamy weekend getaway in Mendocino. We’d snag an incredible Airbnb with breathtaking views of the Pacific—it’s the perfect spot to unwind. The charm of the town, coupled with hikes along the stunning coastline, would make for an idyllic escape.
Then we would head for a day trip to Napa/Sonoma for some wine tasting. Picture us sipping the delicious wines, enjoying the vineyard views, and treating ourselves to a luxurious massage at a spa before indulging in a delightful brunch.
Amidst all this excitement, we’d also carve out time for laid-back moments—maybe a day lazing by the beach or a leisurely stroll through a quiet park or grab some ice cream at Salt and Straw or a soft serve at Meadowlark
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a few remarkable individuals apart from my family and team that have played an instrumental role in my journey. My Monday Chill, co-founder, Shipra Mathur, deserves a massive shoutout. Together, we’ve built a business from the ground up, navigating uncharted territories, and creating a beloved brand that resonates with many. Her unwavering dedication and collaboration have been invaluable.
Then there’s my husband, a steadfast pillar of support. His unwavering belief in me and tireless encouragement have been the bedrock of my endeavors. He’s truly my biggest cheerleader, and I couldn’t have done it without him by my side.
But the ultimate inspiration and driving force behind my pursuit of excellence is my daughter. She’s the reason I constantly strive to improve, to be more ambitious, and to evolve as a better human being. Her presence in my life has been a catalyst for my personal and professional growth.
