We had the good fortune of connecting with NyQuinn a.k.a “Gaptooth Queen” and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi NyQuinn, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Having peace and a clear mind makes me happy. I’m a very sensitive person so when I’m overstimulated it makes my mind feel cluttered. That’s why I really enjoy quiet time. Also getting any kind of project done makes me happy because I’m bringing that vision to life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe my true talent is creativity. I can be honest and say I’m not the best singer, but I’m unique. Another thing about myself is I’m VERY resilient. It’s almost annoying to me at times because I just will not give up. I used to have crippling stage fright and it took 5 years of me consistently singing at open mic nights to overcome it. There was so many times I left open mic night crying, beating myself up. It might sound dramatic but there was even a point I wanted to commit suicide because that fear felt like a demon I just couldn’t kill. But something in me would not allow me to give up. I’m not quite where I want to be, but I’ve came such a long way and I’m so proud of my growth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be honest I’m more of a homebody so I would prefer to chill inside a lot of the time and cook. I love to cook! But if we were to go somewhere it would be Hoover Dam because I love nature and there’s so much beautiful scenery there. Another beautiful nature spot to go to is Indian Run Falls Park. As far as food there’s 3 places I would take them to. A place called “Hoyo’s” in North Market, a vegan spot (also in North Market) called “Willowbeez Soulveg” and another vegan spot I just tried called “4th and State”.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would just like to recommend a book called “Outwitting The Devil”. It was a life changer for me.
