We had the good fortune of connecting with Omar Hussein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Omar, why did you pursue a creative career?
I discovered I loved performing when I did my first play in middle school. The feeling of being able to Largely express myself in a safe space for the first time was thrilling. I continued on that path all throughout Highschool and college. Although somewhere at the beginning of my Collegiate journey I began to loose myself and my ability to fearlessly act. I went on to Teach Highschool theatre for a year and directing those kids and seeing their love for their craft inspired me to make a real push before so was too comfortable. After that following summer I made my move to LA

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Coming to La at first had its challenges. Being from Texas the drastic change in rent and just the cost of living at first came as a bit of a shock. But slowly I would meet people who would give me tidbits of advice and information to where I started slowly making a climb up. From starting as background actor, to having a manager, and then an agent, to booking some brand name commercials, and indie films. I think the most surreal moment to me is when I suddenly would get all these texts and social media notifications from people back home that they saw me on tv or on their phones. Now as an Actor you’re going to be told No a whole lot more than you’re told yes so that can get discouraging. But with Grit and patience I’m proud to say that I’m still toughing it out. Through this entire journey so far the biggest two lessons I’ve learned are that people can only believe in you as much as you believe in yourself, and that you can’t do everything alone. To be able to accept the advice, support, and the grace of others is truly a big blessing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Back in Texas there wasn’t much elevation so I was astounded by some of the beautiful mountainous hikes here. I would take them to few of those for sure. One of my favorites is a cool camping trail called crystal lake. It has some snow in some parts of the year so it’s a truly magical spot. LA is also big on Edm so of course you’re a drive away from annual festivals and cool spots like Catch One. And lastly you can’t forget the beach! Checking out the Venice strip or stopping by Huntington is never a bad idea.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
While I was struggling to find my passion in school I met a good Friend, Tate McMillan. He pitched the idea that we should make the leap together and for the first two years of the journey we were figuring it out together. Which helped a lot when it came to being new to the industry. We definitely kept each other supported and fired up. I would also like to shoutout so many friends who would say the most supportive things from back home and they know who they are. But another noteable shoutout would be my friend Evan Kolin who since we were young would always correct my belief in myself. Love that guy death.
