Meet Omar Montalvo | Music Producer & Music Career Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Omar Montalvo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Omar, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own business after deep reflection and passion. Identifying opportunities was key to fulfilling my life purpose. I decided to dedicate myself completely to what I love: music and artistic mentoring. This is how my art school was born, where I share my experience in a useful way. My goal is to make a difference in the quality and development of the skills I teach, as a professional musician and mentor of artistic talents.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Omar, I am 46 years old and I have dedicated a large part of my life to the world of artistic education and music. At the age of 22, I began my career as a teacher at the Logos school in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where I taught Art Education and Music, both in theory and practice. During this time, I discovered and nurtured talents, which led me to found my own company for the development of youth talents.

As the person in charge of four female artists, I guided and promoted their musical careers individually over a period of 3 to 4 years. This experience not only allowed me to develop skills in production, music arranging, promotion and arts management, but also solidified my passion for helping others reach their full potential in the musical field.

In 2016, I concluded my time as a manager and decided to found my own art school, EFA. I designed a comprehensive program that covered disciplines such as piano, guitar, percussion, singing, expression and movement, and ensemble as mandatory subjects for three years. Despite the success, the pandemic led us to close after five years of operation.

My connection to music and education goes beyond my career; I come from a family deeply involved in the musical field. My father, with 50 years of experience, is a renowned bolero singer, and my brother has been active in the musical field since he was 16 years old.

As a music producer, I have had the privilege of working with both national and international artists, strengthening working and friendly relationships in the artistic industry. This experience led me to apply and obtain a position as A&R at Chil House.

I seek to promote comprehensive artistic education from an early age, cultivating creative capacity and the ability to express oneself both in groups and individually. I propose the formation of bands or musical ensembles that include instruments such as piano, guitar, bass, drums, percussion and voices.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I greatly enjoy inviting my friends to live special moments, especially enjoying good music and admiring the landscape. We have a penchant for sunsets, so I take them to the beach, where I live and where they can experience the sunrise or sunset by camping near the sea.

It is fascinating to observe the various colors that the sky paints as we go from the light of day to the darkness of night, admiring the wonderful stars that seem to have been created just for us.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to express my deep gratitude to my family and my wife for their love, dedication and wisdom. They are always willing to improve every aspect of my life and collaborate in every initiative I undertake.

I also thank each of my students who have passed through my classroom; Without knowing it, they have also taught me.

Furthermore, I am grateful to that spiritual family that appears at the right time, providing me with support and company on my path.
