Meet Oscar Gervet | Creative Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Oscar Gervet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Oscar, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I think the entertainment industry is quite particular in terms of “work-life balance,” that is, if there is one. First, the line between friends, professional network, and collaborators is blurry. Then, the nature of the film industry is unbalanced, whether answering calls and emails on weekends at an agency or management company or working freelance and being on set for at least 12 hours a day during production. And I think it’s OK if life is unbalanced for some time. I think it’s OK if someone works 70+ hours a week for a year or two if that enables them to get where they want, as long as they still make quality time for family, friends, relationships, and themselves outside of work. I think everyone is different, and as long as people find value and happiness in their journey, life can sometimes be out of balance.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a French creative producer based in LA. I champion director-driven genre films and series with an international angle. I love how the most local stories have universal resonance.
One of the projects I’m producing that I’m very excited about is “JIN,” a short film by uprising Kurdish writer-director Hamoun Dolatshahi. “JIN” is an elevated science-thriller that explores the value and struggle of Kurdish culture and language. It won the 2023 Sloan Science in Cinema Filmmaker Fellowship, and I’m very excited to show this film to people this year.
I’m where I’m at today thanks to the incredibly creative and smart people I met during my time as a talent manager and producing partner assistant at Entertainment 360 and as an MFA student and teacher associate at the UCLA Producers Program.
I’m always looking to connect. Amid the challenges of the covid, I founded The Story Tribe community, where diverse filmmakers and industry leaders share their insightful experiences. So whether on LinkedIn or Instagram, don’t hesitate to connect!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A random but good list! Robata JINYA – 3rd St. – I love their happy hour food and drinks
Largo at the Coronet – check the The Improvised Shakespeare Company if you can!
Vibrato Grill Jazz – Brenna Whitaker was amazing!
Kazu Nori – affordable and delicious Japanese rolls!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My fellow Entertainment 360 assistants — whether they are still there or have left the company — made my time there so much better. Many of them became friends and collaborators, and one became my girlfriend. So shoutout to them!
