AgaveLuz Organic Tequila: Honoring Tradition, Crafting Purity

Tell us more about your business. What sets you apart from others?

AgaveLuz Organic Tequila is more than just a tequila brand; it’s a commitment to preserving the authentic craftsmanship that makes tequila a symbol of Mexican heritage. What sets us apart is our unwavering dedication to producing 100% organic, additive-free tequila using only two ingredients: the finest blue Weber organic agave and pure spring water. Our process is rooted in tradition, from the hand-harvesting of mature agave plants to slow cooking them in traditional stone ovens. Each step is carefully designed to honor the centuries-old methods that have defined premium tequila for generations.

We also stand out for our focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility. Every bottle of AgaveLuz is a testament to our commitment to the land and the people who cultivate it. We use organic farming practices that avoid synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, ensuring that our tequila is not only pure and flavorful but also environmentally friendly. Our small-batch production allows us to maintain an exceptional level of quality, resulting in a tequila that is smooth, rich, and true to its roots.

Additionally, what makes AgaveLuz even more special is our commitment to giving back. For every bottle sold, we donate $2 to the Humane Society’s Pets for Life program, an organization that is very close to my heart. I have been volunteering with the Humane Society for over 15 years, working to help stray and underserved animals. This cause is not just a charitable initiative—it’s my passion. By supporting AgaveLuz, you’re not only enjoying a premium tequila but also contributing to a cause that helps save the lives of animals in need.

What are you most proud of or excited about?

I am most proud of staying true to the authenticity of tequila-making while also pushing the boundaries of what modern consumers expect from a premium spirit. Seeing AgaveLuz embraced by people who appreciate its purity and the story behind it has been incredibly rewarding. I’m excited about the future—particularly as we continue to expand our reach while staying committed to our core values of quality, sustainability, and tradition. The launch of our Extra Añejo, aged for an impressive 12 years, is a significant milestone for us, representing the pinnacle of our craft and a luxurious experience for those who savor it.

How did you get to where you are today business-wise? Was it easy?

The journey to where we are today has been both challenging and deeply fulfilling. My passion for tequila began in my childhood, growing up near the agave fields of Jalisco. I was captivated by the dedication and skill that went into every bottle of authentic tequila. However, as I pursued a career in the tequila industry, I noticed a shift towards mass production, shortcuts, and the use of additives that compromised the integrity of the spirit. I knew then that I had to create something different—something that would bring back the true essence of tequila.

Starting AgaveLuz was not easy. It required a deep commitment to sourcing the best organic agave, adhering to traditional methods, and convincing others that there was still a market for authentic, additive-free tequila. There were times when the challenges seemed overwhelming, but my belief in the product and its mission kept me going. Today, I’m proud to say that AgaveLuz stands as a testament to what can be achieved when you stay true to your values and vision.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I want the world to know that AgaveLuz Organic Tequila is a labor of love—a product born from a deep respect for tradition and a desire to bring back the authenticity of tequila. Each bottle is crafted with care, using only two ingredients, and reflects the rich heritage of Mexico’s tequila-making. Our story is one of perseverance, passion, and a commitment to quality that never wavers. Additionally, my passion for animal welfare drives our brand’s mission to give back. With every bottle sold, $2 is donated to the Humane Society’s Pets for Life program, supporting the care and protection of animals in need. Volunteering with the Humane Society has been a significant part of my life for over 15 years, and it’s a cause that I hold very close to my heart. By choosing AgaveLuz, you’re not just enjoying a premium tequila; you’re also supporting a brand that values purity, sustainability, and compassion.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Los Angeles and I wanted to show them the best time ever, I’d plan a week that blends the city’s vibrant culture, natural beauty, and, of course, some incredible food and drinks.

Day 1: Beach Day in Santa Monica
We’d kick off the trip with a classic LA experience—spending the day at Santa Monica Beach. We’d start with breakfast at Huckleberry Bakery & Café, enjoying fresh pastries and coffee. Then, we’d head to the beach for a relaxing morning by the ocean, maybe renting bikes to ride along the iconic boardwalk to Venice Beach. For lunch, we’d stop at The Misfit for some casual, farm-to-table fare. The evening would be perfect for a stroll down the Santa Monica Pier, ending with a sunset drink at The Bungalow.

Day 2: Arts and Culture in Downtown LA
We’d spend our second day exploring Downtown LA’s cultural gems. First stop: The Broad, a contemporary art museum with some of the most exciting exhibits in the city. Afterward, we’d grab lunch at Grand Central Market, where the food choices are endless. In the afternoon, we’d visit the historic Bradbury Building and maybe catch a show at The Walt Disney Concert Hall if something interesting is playing. Dinner would be at Bavel, a top-notch Middle Eastern restaurant, followed by cocktails at Perch, with stunning rooftop views of the city.

Day 3: Hiking and Nature in Griffith Park
We’d start the day with a hearty breakfast at HomeState in Los Feliz, known for its delicious Tex-Mex breakfast tacos. Then, we’d head to Griffith Park for a morning hike up to the Griffith Observatory. The views of the city and the Hollywood sign are unbeatable. After our hike, we’d visit the Los Angeles Zoo or stroll through the Los Angeles Arboretum. For dinner, we’d head to Alcove Café & Bakery for a cozy meal in their beautiful garden patio.

Day 4: Shopping and Dining in Beverly Hills
A trip to LA wouldn’t be complete without a day in Beverly Hills. We’d start with breakfast at The Ivy, a celebrity favorite, and then spend the morning shopping along Rodeo Drive. We’d explore Beverly Gardens Park and maybe do some more shopping at The Grove. For lunch, we’d stop at Nate ‘n Al, an old-school deli that’s an LA institution. Dinner would be an upscale affair at Spago, Wolfgang Puck’s flagship restaurant, where we’d indulge in a culinary masterpiece.

Day 5: Wine Tasting in Malibu
We’d take a scenic drive up the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu for a day of wine tasting. We’d visit Malibu Wines and maybe have a picnic at Malibu Creek State Park. Lunch would be at Geoffrey’s Malibu, with its incredible ocean views. We’d spend the afternoon exploring El Matador State Beach with its stunning rock formations. On our way back, we’d stop for dinner at Nobu Malibu, enjoying sushi and more breathtaking views of the Pacific.

Day 6: Foodie Adventure in Silver Lake and Echo Park
We’d dedicate a day to exploring the trendy neighborhoods of Silver Lake and Echo Park. We’d start with brunch at Sqirl, famous for its inventive dishes and house-made jams. We’d spend the afternoon browsing the local shops and boutiques, maybe renting a paddleboat on Echo Park Lake. For dinner, we’d head to Night + Market Song for some of the best Thai food in the city. Afterward, we’d catch a live show at The Echo, one of the area’s best music venues.

Day 7: Relaxation and Reflection in Pasadena
To wind down the week, we’d spend a relaxing day in Pasadena. We’d start with breakfast at Julienne, a charming French café. Then, we’d visit the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, spending the morning exploring the beautiful gardens and galleries. Lunch would be at The Raymond 1886, a historic spot with a great patio. In the evening, we’d stroll around Old Town Pasadena, ending with dinner at Union, a cozy restaurant known for its rustic Italian fare.

Throughout the week, we’d make sure to enjoy some of the incredible local tequila bars where we’d definitely find AgaveLuz Organic Tequila on the menu. Whether sipping it neat or enjoying it in a well-crafted cocktail, it would be the perfect way to cap off each day in LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to the incredible team at AgaveLuz, whose passion and dedication have been essential in bringing our vision to life. Eladio Martínez, our Master Distiller, has been the heart and soul of our production process, ensuring that every bottle of AgaveLuz Organic Tequila reflects the authentic craftsmanship of traditional tequila-making. Eladio Martínez Jr., who works closely with his father, has been pivotal in maintaining the consistency and excellence of our tequila. His attention to detail and dedication to upholding our high standards have been crucial to our success.
