We had the good fortune of connecting with Panagiotis Balalas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Panagiotis, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I have been actively engaged in the dynamic world of radio since 1997.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working as a radio producer/host and voice-over artist, contributing my skills to various projects and broadcasts. In 2014, I made the exciting move to London to pursue my master’s degree in Media and Communication. Despite the change in location, my commitment to the field remained steadfast.

During my time in London, I have had the pleasure of working with prominent Greek radios based in the city, leveraging my expertise to support and engage with the Greek communities in the UK. Being originally from Greece, this opportunity has allowed me to connect with my roots while contributing to the vibrant tapestry of the Greek diaspora.

My journey in the media and radio industry has been fueled by an unwavering passion for storytelling, music, community engagement, and the power of the airwaves to unite diverse audiences.

When reflecting on the key factors that have contributed to my success in radio industry, I attribute it to a combination of passion, adaptability, and a deep connection to my roots. Passion has been the driving force behind my commitment to delivering compelling content and creating meaningful connections with audiences. Additionally, the ability to adapt to new challenges and embrace change, especially during my transition to London for my master’s degree, has been instrumental in broadening my skill set and expanding my professional horizons.

Moreover, my strong connection to my Greek heritage has played a pivotal role. It has not only provided me with a unique perspective but has also fueled my dedication to serving and supporting the Greek communities in the UK. This cultural tie has been a constant source of inspiration, influencing the way I do radio and enhancing my understanding of the diverse audiences I engage with.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to extend a heartfelt shoutout and credit to David Lloyd, a seasoned thirty-year radio veteran whose book, ‘How to Make Great Radio,’ has been a great source of knowledge and guidance. The insights and expertise shared in this book have not only shaped my understanding of radio production but have also served as a constant source of inspiration for elevating my craft.

David Lloyd’s ability to distill decades of experience into practical advice has been instrumental in honing my skills as a radio producer and host. The book’s emphasis on storytelling, audience engagement, and the art of creating compelling content has significantly influenced my approach to radio broadcasting.

I must also acknowledge the incredible mentors, colleagues, and the vibrant radio community that I’ve had the privilege to be a part of since 1997. Their support, guidance, and collaborative spirit have played a crucial role in my growth and success in the radio industry.
