We had the good fortune of connecting with Paola Ruvalcaba and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paola, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My main thought was the motivation to help my community especially during the pandemic. No one was going out so I was delivering the food to their homes.


What should our readers know about your business?
What distinguishes me from others, I think, is the cordial relationship I have with clients. For me, my clients are the most important thing. And of course the quality of the ingredients I use! Every day I give my best to be able to make my business grow. During these past 4 years, I learned that for my small business to grow, social networks are very important. Of course I make use of them and upload content about what we do! The process has not been easy. But with perseverance, discipline and faith, i am confident my business will continue to grow.


Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The best places to visit in San Diego is Balboa park, La Jolla Cove and Seaword. And of course eating tacos!


Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this recognition to my family. My sister Lupita is the creator of the name “La Empanada y Ya! She was the one who encouraged me and pushed me to undertake this venture! My brother in law the accountant and coach of La Empanada y Ya! Of course my parents Victor and Lupita for always helping and supporting me! And my beautiful family my Kids!! And to a person who believed in me, Katia Callahan from Eastlake Food To Go. Thank you for continuing to support me in every step of the way.
