We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Logan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patricia, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
fiddle & fern was born in our side yard garden during a time of uncertanty faced by a pandemic. The beauty, peacefulness and outdoor space we created was catching on quickly as folx’s wanting to just adopt a plant and spend time in our garden space sharing in a vision and feeling life was delicate and precious.

Our next door neighbors are like family, as conversation around opening a retail space became real, my friend and neighbor Nancy said, “Wait, you started this to have fun, just make sure you’re always having fun! Yep, we are still having fun
We keep this always in our daily mantra, lets just have some fun with plants and convo around the greenery.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Fiddle & Fern is nestled in downtown ventura, we are a plant shop with a lot of love and care advise to share with anyone who stops by our shop. We pride ourselves in more of a boutique plant shop experience as we set you up for succes on your plant journey whatever that looks like.
Are you a first time plant parent? Do you have 150 plants in your home and just want to fill that extra corner with something more exotic?
We got ya covered with all the aspects from watering, lighting, proper drainage and some cool extra tips we love sharing with plant community.

This approach creates a space for folks to leave with confidence and excitement raising their new plant baby, and guess what? Yep, they love to come back and share their stories with us, plant parenting success, yeet!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh majestic downtown Ventura is my favorite jam. Supporting local family owned and operated shops is the best you can get. A little walk down Main St. is an experience of joy, live music and quite a few cool and interesting shops.

We would grab a dirty chai latte and samosa from Kaapicat, that would be perfect to stroll into The Refille Shoppe an eco emporium of good smells, mindfull people who strive for a little less plastic in our world.

Grab a acia bowl and honey oatmilk iced latte from the crew at Palm and Boy, latina owned and operated by an amazing human Jaimelene, we can sit in the courtyard and take a moment to just breathe and relax as the space is magic.

A hike at the Botanical Gardens, the foothills of Ventura, great native plant convo and a view of the pacific ocean and Channel Islands

We would grab a beer at Ventura Coast Brewery, this has been my haunt since they opened in 2016, good people, great beer and always down to support multiple non-profits.

Why not a cocktail and bite to eat at The Saloon, this crew is super fun, we can catch a dance party scene on a Thursday night with DJ Danny.

A live concert at the Majestic Ventura Theater, this classic draws some great talent, the architecture and esthetic is a vibe all in itself.

Breakfast-lunch from Frontside Cafe, this is a family owned adorable and welcoming cafe with a twist on Australian cuisine. Owned by Joel & Charne Huff, catch one of their rare pop up wine dinners too!

A walk near Surfers Point with our shop dog Ellie, you can catch a look at the surfing going on regularly, kitesurfing and windsurfing too.

Can’t help myself but we must grab a new piece of Patagonia as they are the founded right here in town.

Let’s finish with a glass of wine at Midtown Wines, loving this natural wine shop with an educational pop up to join as well. Supporting local wine makers many women owned.

Full moon experience from just a neighborhood street, you would meet my neighborhood friends who share, conversations, food, wine and great travel stories.
I grew up skateboarding and running this town as a child, met my favorite guy who I still call my honey, I hope you get to visit and enjoy a little bit of what we love so much from Ventura.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My bestie told me for many years, you should start your own business, why are you giving your talents away to someone else?

Okay thats great advice now what? Timing is just that, after a mix of career directions and working in the corporate world this empty space was sitting in my heart. Regular meditating and mindful thoughts the transition began from employee to shop owner, fiddle & fern was developing in a really organic way, not a pun, the transformation began with support and encouragement from my husband, adult kids and bestie Cindy Hendricks, a esthetician and creator.

I have some really cool friends that are always backing me up, encouraging me and cheering me on. My shop is very unique in that I share retail space with two other women business owners. Let me tell you how rad these women are, Debbie Roth owner of Plum Gifts has been in the retail world for almost 20 years. When Debbie called me to come see her new location and help with plants for the shop, we walked in the back and looked at a big storage area with the sweetest skylight, I quickly said hey what if I open Fiddle & Fern back here. Ya, it was truly that magical. Debbie is my mentor, my biggest fan and always supports me in my business and growth. Hey who knew I would also meet a new friend as Kristi Greysen a jewlery designer and maker was also moving in to share the space up front with Debbie. Three women, three concepts, the energy is mind blowing.

I could never leave out some of the most important people that helped create Fiddle & Fern, my customers! They took a chance on me and just keep coming back with more friends and support, the biggest shout out is to my customers they make the day super cool and always fun.
